I have a 1 meter dish and a Direct PC dish. I am new to FTA although I have adjusted a lot lately. Question is, which dish would be better to use. I will have to steal the lnb mount clamp from the direct pc dish if I use the 1 meter. Snow and cooold weather have prevented me from putting it up as I only got the dish and a receiver about a week ago.

General rule #1: Bigger is better. (measure the width as that is the effective area on an offset dish[with the lnb support on the bottom{or top}]unless it's one of those primestar ovals) A 1 meter is very acceptable for Ku, unless you're hunting for out of footprint signals.

I do have a primestar one. Is that design any better? The Direct PC is also an oval one. Just for grins, does anyone know if the Direct PC lnb is circular or standard? Might be able to put up 2 dishes. I can put them on my 20 foot tower, and my wife will invite everyone to the funeral after she kills me. hehehe

I do know, either will perform well, if set up properly. But, off hand, I wouldn't know which would be better, but I bet some one here has had experience with each. My P-star oval performed just slightly better than my Channel Master .75 meter. (of which, I'm very happy with) Probably because the generic LNBF was only utilizing the center area of the dish, equivalent to the ~same area as a .75m. Post some pics, and dimensions, and someone will recognize 'em, and leave a comment.

Which is better, a Yugo or a Rolls Royce?

Depends on if you want to ride on bike paths or the freeway... Or in the case of the"?" internet or FTA...

I read that wrong the first time. But the one meter dish might be bigger and if you match it to the right LNBF then it would be better. If the wrong LNBF then who knows?

If the 1 meter dish is a "round" Primestar, it should be the better performer. I put the word round in quotes because the dishes are actually a bit taller than they are wide. They appear to be totally round until you look at them closely. Any pictures?

Yes, PICTURES !
We sometimes visualize the wrong dish, or we get bad verbal descriptions.
Nothing says 'truth', quite like a picture.

For instance, I think 'DirectWay' dish whenever I encounter a discussion of 'DirectPC' dishes.
And as for 'Primestar', they come in different sizes.
Plus, I have some which you would mistake for Primestar dishes, but actually are not. ;)

As mentioned above, you are probably better off with the original LNBF.
But depending on dish shape, at least the original feedhorn might be critical.
