So much for every game on Directv. Cubs game is supposed to be on 654 but blacked out and also not on EI. I wonder what excuse I'll get this time. Jump in here Jimbo and give me the official D* line.
Thanks for the quick response. I guess the Marlins must figure if their fans don't want to watch the game, nobody does. I guess I'll just listen on XM and I can't even get the Cubs feed there. The curse of the goat continues. 100 years and counting.
The real lousy part is that mlb.tv is showing it, the only game their blacking out is the 8pm Rangers game that is not the ESPN game. (The rangers often schedule games at night due to the temperature in July/August).
Glad I could help.
Feel for you or any other fan in this type situation.
Marlins should have had the decency to start the game at 4:35P instead of 5:05P.
Would have allowed both feeds(Marlins and Cubs) to be carried via the MLBEI package.
If the Marlins aren't worried about such matters this is where MLB should have stepped in and insisted on an earlier start time.
Little things like that could go a long way in soothing your fan and customer base.
I understand the reason for both the Fox Saturday and ESPN Sunday blackouts. Don't like them at all, but understand why they are in place.
In this case though, absolutely no one would have been hurt by a half hour earlier start time.
Marlins should have taken care of that own their own, but if they can't exhibit the necessary foresight then MLB should have stepped in. Nothing but common sense measure that would cost very little and generated tons of good will.

Doesnt Florida do the same thing and schedule night games due to the heat?
Texas doesnt have any day games at home June, July, August because of the heat
EVERYONE in the state of Florida saw it on FOX Sports.....they DID "take care of their own".....
Continue though to keep the thread supplied with irrelevant information.
The actual quote was that The Marlins should have taken care of That own their own referring to the start time and TV situation for patrons of the MLBEI package.
Not taken care of their own which would imply that the Marlins have zero fans outside the state to be considered, thus only the residents of the Sunshine state are the only Marlin fans in the country.
I assumed maybe incorrectly that the Marlins have fans outside the state like most other teams do.
A half hour earlier start time would have allowed this game to be picked up on the EI package for "out of market viewers".
Everyone understands and was aware of the fact that FSN Florida and CSN Chicago got to show the game in their respective markets. That was not even remotely the point. Cubs fans all over the country outside of the Chicago viewing area were denied access to the game. Though the outcome of the game may have made that non access a good thing.

Only following your lead...
Absolutely correct. One of the main selling points of an out of market package is so you can watch your team play even if you don't live there. By only showing the game locally you eliminate the chance for your displaced fans to watch the game.
Obviously the Cubs have tons of fans who don't live in Chicago, and one of the reasons is showing games on WGN all these years...to their fans who don't live in Chicago.
It is true a 4:35 start time by the Marlins would have allowed the game to be shown all over the country.

Not sure what you mean by that. What part of david1314's information was irrelevelant or inaccurate?
Sandra
Maybe it was mandated BY the League Office. MOST of all Marlins afternoon games are started at 1:00pm Sunday, all other games are 7:05pm 1st pitch. There was no special promotion by the Marlins on Sunday because I was there.
So BEFORE people start blaming the Marlins office about this unusual start time, a little home work should be done on whether this was mandated by the league office. I HIGHLY doubt a team would try to screw over satellite and cable companies on purpose.
So are you saying you did do the homework, and found out the National League mandated the 5:05 PM start time?
