I had opened a thread here about 2 weeks ago, and received some really good replies to help me correct my first few false steps into the FTA world. The info from senior members was especially valuable. I thought that I could come back later, look up the thread and just cut and paste some of the info from the thread into a file on my hard drive: "But wait... now where are all those gold doubloons and pieces of eight, pieces of eight, pieces of eight."

Do old threads, just like old elephants in the wild, have a special "place" that they go to to die?
thanks.

see attached (by the way...the blacked out stuff is mod only options)

Yes, that is the thread. Notice all the good info from seniors like Anole, Gabshere, voom voom, and Tron. Thank you Ice. You guys are great!

options that only moderators (staff) can see. Being a mod I have some other options when I click on the drop down :)

If you are going to continue working on the project in the other thread, just keep posting to that thread.
It keeps all the info and pictures in one place, so anyone wanting to help or see your dish/project, just has the one place to look.

We'll help you with whatever you need.
Or, maybe you got that message already. - - :up

Did I jump the track somewhere? I may have because my kids know more about posts and threads than I ever will.

Also, I was wondering... at what point does my "project" become too technical for the FTA Shack? I thought I read somewhere that this forum is for "non technical FTA discussion"?

This (SatelliteGuys.US) is the first forum/board I have ever joined.

. . . then I'm sure Iceberg will move it out into the main FTA area, the BUD area, the DVB/PCI area, or wherever is appropriate.
It's an easy house keeping function.
That keeps things neat.
However, no one is all that much a stickler, so don't worry.

Of course, if you've been here two years, and keep posting tech things in the Shack, or BUD thing outside the BUD area . . . :)
It's really a very relaxed place.
Iceberg runs a super nice FTA department! -

Okay, I think I found it. I had posted my original thread just "above" this subforum(?). That must be the "main FTA forum".

I'm going right back there now and continue the project. I have new photos from today!

The FTA shack is mainly the "shoot the breeze" area of FTA whereas the main area is the "meat & potatos" of the area. If it needs to be moved, it will be but we're not into the whole "you posted in the wrong place" thing like other boards.

We're here to help not to criticize where a post is made :)

I was just gonna start a thread on old posts. I just got done reading all my noob posts from my early days and was shocked at how much I have learned in this industry/hobby. I've come to appreciate what I can watch on TV with FTA and has helped accommodate my OTA world without cable/dish subs.

Ice and all the others here (too many to mention) are nice people.

I see things happening on other forums where the mods will ban you for posting in the wrong area. These forums can get out of hand but this is a tight ship. Good work!

you and me both :)

I only ban hackers and spammers...if you post in the wrong area I dont get mad, I move it. If you ask a question that has been asked before, we dont jump down your throat. We answer it politely because we were noobs once.

We just like to have fun, help each other out and see what weird things we can accomplish :D
