So what will happen when dish collects the 942 and 921's? With they resell them cheap or just scrap them?

If Dish starts transitioning SD channels to 8PSK/MPEG-2, they can swap out older DVRs for 942s of course without allowing folks to subscribe to HD via satellite with their new 942s. This is in order to not have to swap out folks later with MPEG-4 for HD. If I were Dish, I trash the 921s. It's not worth the hassle of subscribers having problems with them.

I agree, the 921s should be recycled and ground up.

Dish's long range plans as to whether or when they convert SD over to MPEG4 will influence the decision on 942s. If that is going to be a while, then the 942s become as useful to SD subs as the 625.
