When you don't have a DPP44 switch

I went to a trouble call the other day and found out the customer was picking up 4 satellites 119,110,105, and 61.5 without a DPP44 switch! The configuration was quite simple, but I never knew it could work. He had a 34 switch with a SD105, then his receiver line was running out of the 34 switch into a DP21 switch. The other side of the DP21 switch had the satellite line from the 61.5. Then the line ran out of the DP21 switch to his 811 receiver. It worked, but what I want to know is if it will continue to work or is this a temporary thing?

yep it will work just fine

people do this all the time. They cascade a SW21 off of a SW64 too for 4 satellites

If I were the customer with the 622, I'd insist on the DPP44. I wouldn't want two cables running from the switch to the receiver.

I always go with the DPP44 option first..However there have been times when we were out of the 44's...this is a viable option....I am hearing that Dish is sometimes out of them or they get stingy on distribution when their inventory gets low...
The customer always has the last word as to the installtion of a second cable to the dual tuner location.....If that customer balks at the new line, they will have to wait for another install day....Most won't wait....There is of course the possiblity of there not being a practical route for the cable....Then the cust has to wait anyway.....Ain't satellite fun

and look from another point dish LLC cant order anything from dish destitution from Colorado, it's like Christmas you get one truck on Monday but you have no clue what they shipped. they estimate numbers for example last truck they shipped 15 DP duals and 10 DPP 44 Switches. and that have to last a week between 22 vans rolling every day.

The big difference is the cascade won't work with separators or with Legacy receivers.

Well, that means my installation will require a DPP44. I'll have 4 lines to 3 receivers: ViP622, 721 & 508. The 721 will need a separator. Thanks.

The tech showed up today without a D1000 and no DPP44.

His manager was able to drive over a D1000, but didn't have DPP44

I told him it would be ok to lose the 148 bird temporarily, until they could come back with a DPP44. They promised they would return saturday with a DPP44

The installer used this cascade technique with my install, and it's been nothing but trouble thus far. While I can get 4 satellites (110, 119, 129 on 1000, and 61.5 on small dish), every day when I attempt to power up the 211 in the morning:

1. It takes over a minute to complete the startup cycle, MUCH longer than my old 811... the green power indicator stays off for 10+ seconds, comes on for about 15, then goes off for 20 seconds or so, then comes back on and stays on and then I get to the 5-step satellite reception process.
2. Regardless of what channel I was watching when the 211 was powered down the night before, it always wants to connect to 61.5
3. When it gets to downloading the guide, 70% of the time it freezes there and I have to do a reboot again.
4. Sometimes during the 5-step satellite reception stage, I will get an error message about there being a problem with the switch. When I do a switch test, the only switch it recognizes is the one with the 61.5 dish on it.
5. However, if I unplug the 211 for 10 minutes or so and reconnect, and then do a switch test, it will find both switches and all 4 satellites. Then things are good until the next morning, when I have to repeat the process.

I'm guessing I really need a DP44, but the local installer is saying that it's incredibly expensive.

Frankly, I think that E* should be footing the bill for the switch, not me.

how does this work i have tried to do it but the receiver only picks up 61.5.
