What's the difference between an HR44-500 and an HR44-700?

I'm curious.

The 500 is manufactured by Humax and the 700 is manufactured by Pace. There might be some minor differences in the internal components used but they should perform identically.

-100 - Thomson/Technicolor (formerly RCA)

-200 - Samsung

-250 - TiVo (no longer active)

-300 - Pace (formerly Philips)

-400 - Hughes (no longer active)

-500 - Humax

-600 - LG

-700 - Pace

-800 - NEC

Currently the only active manufacturers are 100 200 500 and 700 for residential boxes just fyi. The rest you will only see refurbished boxes if at all. And i can't even recall the last box NEC made... anyone remember the model by chance?

I think the last NEC box (-800) was the D11 SD receiver.

Yep I was just about to post this when I looked it up. It also seems this was the only model NEC produced. Was short lived as well.

HR34 still manufactured or only refurbs?

Pretty sure HR34 is just refurbs at this point, the problem is they have lots of them to refurb and redistribute as people have problems often get HR44 then the 34 is back to someone else's home in a few months. Until they are willing to take a write down on that inventory we'll be in this same situation.

Based on the HR21-HR23 past, they usually do that around 5 years, and no longer collect those models for refurb use.

So, 2-3 more years of HR34 floating the system is likely.

Too add to this a bit, NORMALLY, if you have a recvr that is defective they will try thier best to give you the SAME recvr model, unless the customer would refuse the replacement, which you could always do and see what happens.
