Hi,
Is there a really good DVB-s software to view FTA and power the SG2100 motor using USALS?

DVBDream drives the motor to east when it needs west. I can not seem to fix this. I am guessing it is an issue with DVBDream.

My Theatre at first glance, lacks a lot of dialogs etc. and doesn't seem user friendly.

Let me know your experiences.

I am using a Twinhan 1025 DVB-S card and Digipower SG2100 motor

more help

I've used both DVBdream and MYtheatre, but never to run a motor.
And more importantly, both have forums, if you don't get a good answer here.

I remember a thread once on the MYtheatre forum, discussing how Twinhan cards didn't do diseqc switches so well.
There was a fix.
Don't know if that relates to motors... but since you seem to be getting yours to run (just backwards), maybe this isn't pertinent.

I have been using MT for years .

I have never found DVB-S software that does USALS , or could not figure out how to make it work .

With a motor , I use Diesque controls , manually find a sat & assign a number position to it & then hunt down the next sat .

MT supports USALS. I use it with my set up, but only to get close to a satellite. I use manual mode, like you do, to fine tune the position. I think this is more of a problem with my dish being ever so slighty out of alignment, as I have the same issue with my Coolsat receiver. If the dish were spot on, I think USALS would work fine. I'm just too lazy to climb up on the roof to adjust it.

The problem with the Twinhan cards is their power supply generates too much noise. The noise masks the diseqc commands being sent to a switch, so that they don't switch inputs correctly. There is a thread, I think on the MT site, with instructions on how to modify switches. You basically solder a couple of very, very, small capacitors onto the circuit board of the switch. I've done it to a couple switches and it works. Did I mention the capacitors are really small? I think they're SMT rated. You really need a steady hand to do the work. I messed up 2 or 3 switches before I got the hang of it. Fortunately, I'd bought a lot of 10 4x1 switches on Ebay for next to nothing, so I wasn't too bothered by fouling up a couple.

Mytheatre works fine with Usals and my Twinhan 1020 card. I've have a box of switches here, none of them work well, I finally broke down and bought a Spaun switch($$$$) and it works fine. I remember reading that thread on the MyTheatre board about modding switches. I too have problems getting DvdDream to run in Usals correctly, I thought it was just me.:)

In your other thread on this issue, Sadoun asked if you didn't perhaps have your longitude/latitude set-up incorrectly in your Menu's. More to the point, Sadoun asked if you had set it up for the South, instead of the North. You said you had it correct! Well, if you haven't already thought about trying it, why don't you set it up incorrectly and put it as a South position? Who knows, maybe it will work? I would at least give it a try, it might work?

Hi,

Best software I have used for USAL motor control is SS2Diseqc v1.10

Works perfect!! Auto moves to each satellite when you select a channel. Has a OSD to show motor progress.

Displays all the raw commands for you, so programs like DvbDream can be setup to use the USAL raw commands.

But it is for Skystar 2 cards only.

Voomvoom,
I have tried north/south/east/west. all do not work correctly in DVBDream with my twinhan. If I can set the positions on the motor presets, DVBDream will move to those positions. So, my next question is as follows: I am at 72.0W degrees. If I were to point my motor, considering it is set for true south which direction and reading on the motor should AMC3 87.0W be?
I thought this would be quite easy, but I do like a challenge! So I will definately keep trying to set this up.
Thanks a lot guys for all your help.

(Oh, if you are setting the motor up for the first time tune Circular satellites first. Center of arc then most East and most West.)

This is absolutely fantastic, now I have an idea where it should be pointing!!! I think I have it figured out how to get this now. I will use Twinham DTV with USALS to point the dish and store positions as they seem to follow your guidelines. Then I can access the stored positions from DVBdream or other software. Thanks again

Thanks Jerryt,
I have used Twinhan DTV to set USALS presets and DVBDREAM is now working great with them. I think my problem is solved.
Thanks

Best software I have used for USAL motor control is SS2Diseqc v1.10

Works perfect!! Auto moves to each satellite when you select a channel. Has a OSD to show motor progress.

Displays all the raw commands for you, so programs like DvbDream can be setup to use the USAL raw commands.

But it is for Skystar 2 cards only.

I have both a Twinhan1020A and a Nexus-S ( which I think is compatable to a SkyStar-2 ? )

Can you please give a link to SS2Diseqc v1.10 ?

Thanks ,

Are you using a plugin / module to do USALS ? ( Link please ? )

Or , do the newer versions og MT have native support for USALS ?

Thanks ,

Nexus-S is a Skystar 1, SS2Diseqc won't work with a SS1

Hmmmmmm . so SS2Diseqc v1.10 will not work with either of my cards ?

Which version of MT has USALS support , I think I am running 3.35 ?

Thanks Again Jerryt,
Everything is working fine with presets in DVBDream. I just set the presets using USALS in Twinhan DTV. You were a great help to determine that the dish/motor were actually moving correctly.

Only get 7 channels on AMC3

dish size/freq vs isolation formula
