I live in Sherman TX. I have bought an antenna and amp trying to get WFAA with no luck. I was just wondering why cable is able to carry WFAA and not dish in the same market?

Cable has a different set of rules that don't apply to satellite. You can get ABC from All American Direct AAD using Dish's equipment. Look in the OTA section here, there are some people that are trying the same thing in the Sherman area.
I have a very large old antenna at our ranch and used to be able to get WFAA reliably at night in Pontotoc, but it is not reliable anymore.

actually the reason is Dish lost the ability to sell distants or significantly viewed. When they could sell them, they did have WFAA Dallas as part of the Sherman/Ada nets...Actually they also had PBS & Fox from Dallas too (since Ada/Sherman had no OTA Fox). Then KXII added Fox and folks got switched to that.

Directv can put WFAA in the Ada/Sherman local package but it doesnt look like they carry locals for there. We have the same situation up here in MN. About 75 miles SW of Minneapolis is Mankato. They have one station (KEYC CBS). Directv gave Mankato locals the toher 3 networks from Minneapolis

As noted above, you can go through AAD to get ABC but it would be from NY or San Fran
