i was driving by and old cell phone tower a couple weeks ago. I saw a satellite dish, metal, spun aluminum probably 10-12 feet, but instead of a regular ol' metal pole, there was one about 1 foot in diameter. Why would a dish, not over 12 foot, would have a pole so thick???

also at a junkyard a saw a dish, that was bare aluminum, but it was mesh, it looked like a spun aluminum dish with holes in it. it looked like a giant spaghetti strainer

then again, why are there satellite dishes at cell phone towers? someone shed some light on these old mysterious dishes, no photos

The bare alum. perfed dish is surely from one of the "solar grabbers" who also search out and destroy the solid Bird Views and attach them to solar trackers and use them to capture solar energy for on-site power.

The sat at the cell site... of course cell phones originate from satellites, that site may be a down-link site, or maybe a repeater site - no xpert in cell phone transmission. Maybe the FCC regulates the size of the pipes for sats... you know the government - they love to regulate and spec things.

Did you know: The Eiffel Tower is now used as a cell phone tower in Paris.
