Fox movie channel is now fxm as in fx movie channel.

Sounds like the same channel but with a different presentation format.

On January 1, 2012, Fox Movie Channel started airing the FXM (FX Movie Channel) block each day from 3 P.M. to 3 A.M., with newer movies and few commercials (censored though). The rest of the time, movies will air uncut without commercials as normal.

Except fmc didn't play good new movies like a year old this one will rather have new films then real old non famous ones.

If you think about, how many "Real" channels are there? TNT, TBS, USA, tru, cloo, and several others are interchangeable and if there wasn't a channel ID bug in the corner, you'd never know what you were watching. With the exception of the Science Channel, the Discovery networks (and the like) are interchangeable mindless clones of each other, all playing a mish-mosh of horrible reality shows that have nothing to do with discovering anything (or history, etc). Pawn Storage Pitbull Wars will never be worthwhile programming. Channels used to be themed and unique. Now, it's just re-runs of network shows and stupid reality shows. If not for broadcast networks, sports, Palladia, Comedy Central, Smithsonian, IFC, BBC-A, HBO, and a few other channels, I think we would definitely not pay for TV. Directv, please create an all-sports package!!!!

Ok, rant over. I know it's been beaten to death, but... yeah.

Fox Movie Channel used to be called fXM: Movies from Fox, that was back when it launched on October 31, 1994 on Galaxy 7 transponder 23 I believe it was.

Apparently Fox doesn't know what it wants to be so from approximately 3am to 3pm it's still Fox Movie Channel and is sticking with classic Fox films, uncut and without commercials. From 3pm it's now FXM showing recent films from Fox and other studios with commercials. Of course, that probably means it will be the same edited versions that other channels run. I image some exec at Fox saw the boatloads of money that AMC is raking in and is trying to do the same. I doubt that will happen on just movies. They'll need to invest millions in original programming.

I'm only going to comment on this here because I was just having this exact discussion last night as I removed a slew of channels from the favorites list I use for everyday viewing. When I first got D* back in the 90's, channels like A&E and TLC used to be very good channels, now they air nothing but junk IMO. Further, these channels have not only taken a turn for the worse, but they now air shows that have nothing to do with the name of their networks. The darn Biography channel should be renamed the Ghost channel because all they air are programs about the "paranormal."

Obviously there is a market for this stuff or it wouldn't be on the air and I'm sure some here enjoy these shows. But for me, I agree with ejb. Even though we have 200 more channels to choose from, TV isn't what it used to be.

The only reason is the saturation of channels. Eventually we run out of useful content. One day pay tv will be overpriced and there will be an exodus of subs. Until then, many useless channels will remain to help keep revenue up.

why is that?? Is this DBSTalk?

ok so be it , he wants to debate the worth of a channel and instead of rebuttal (as a forum should work) you belittle the person. That's not how this site is supposed to be. Thought it was supposed to be friendly people helping others understand technology. Not bash this guy for his opinion just because I have nothing to say about it myself.

when you say about him using bandwidth he is right, your turning this into DBStalk. And nobody wants to be them.

I remember when AMC switched to commercials in films. It was a few years until AMC started getting into original programming on a regular basis. I wonder how much Netflix streaming played into the decision change its format?

This would make a great topic thread.
