The affiliation landscape in Charlotte, N.C. (DMA 25), will be changing. Bahakel Communications, the station group that owns WCCB, a Fox affiliate for 27 years, will lose that affiliation in the wake of today’s announcement that Fox Television Stations is buying Capitol Broadcasting’s two stations in the market: WJZY (CW) and WMYT (MNT).
Jim Babb, Bahakel executive vice president and COO, said Fox had put his station on notice this morning that the network planned to switch affiliations in the deal’s wake.
“Obviously we’re disappointed with the news,” Babb told TVNewsCheck. “But we’re determined to find a way to be successful going forward, and we’re already exploring various options.”
Nathaniel Brown, a spokesman for Fox parent News Corp., declined comment.
The price of the sale of WJZY and WMYT was not disclosed and the deal is subject to FCC approval.
