Warner Bros. releases first Blu-Ray titles and is the first studio to release on both formats. How do they compare?

KissKissBandBang still not equal

Final Thoughts

With our second Blu-ray versus HD DVD battle on 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,' we again declare victory (although by a smaller margin) to the HD DVD version. As on 'Training Day,' there is a darker cast to the picture, and I also find Blu-ray's clunky menu navigation quite irritating. Though with 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' Blu-ray has proven it can deliver moments of stunning high-def as good as HD DVD, it is still not delivering that level of quality as consistently. Very, very close with this one, though...

Looks like the second wave of Warner titles using VC-1 is nearly identical to the HD DVD discs. Must make the BR fans glad they paid twice as much for nearly identical quality. :)

Are the reviews out? I read somewhere that Warner is using the HD DVD's with VC-1 as the masters for the Blue-Ray transfer.

Yeah, hidefdigest has the reviews. Basically, it sounds like the same VC-1 encode from the HD DVDs. Only difference is that the BR discs seem darker, according to the reviewer. That is probably just an issue with the Samsung player.

Strange how there's still a bug in the hardware making all the BR movies softer, yet these titles still look identical to their HD DVD conterpart. Go figure.

Oh well, atleast there's finally some good BR discs out there.
