As the title says, really wanna get rid of Dish HD. It was a huge mistake on my part to ever subscribing to it. Unfortunately, bound with a 18 months contract, outta which about 12 months left. So, what's the penalty? Or, better, any ways to minimize it?

Thanks for your responses!

do you just want to get rid of the HD and keep the rest? You can do that with I think no penalty

if you want to get rid of dish completelly, do as Claude said :)

Iceberg,

Yep, I wanna dump Dish HD only, keeping the rest. The problem is that I upgraded to 211 and all the accompanying stuff about 6 months ago with an 18 months contract. Now I am finding myself watching HD OTA almost exclusively, Dish HD Lite has lost whatever appeal it had. Thus trying to minimize the impact of early contract termination.

Thank you for your reply!

You can cancel your HD package and keep the 211 to watch HD OTA, that's what I do. You will have to pay $6.00 for the receiver and another $6.00 for not having a HD package though.

If you are leasing the 211 (or any HD receiver), I believe you have to return the receiver if you drop the HD package.

Well would not say all of it is HD lite and OTA locals in HD the PQ is not going to be a night day diffrence. People make way to much out of HD Lite when really there is not that much of a diffrence.

I don't believe so. At least I didn't have to, I told them that I just wanted to drop the change my package and they never said anything about returning the 211.

If you agreed to a contract of 18 months at a HD programming package level and return to standard it's a breach of programming. If you signed up through a local retailer, that retailer nine times out of ten charges between $500-1,200. If you breach through DISH, it varies between $175(prorated) - $900.

This isn't true, The minimum program commitment required is AT60. So he could drop DishHD down to AT60 and still not break his 18 month contract. He will then be charged an extra $6 a month for having an HD receiver and no HD pack. The only way he would be in breach of his contract is to outright cancel Dish.

Same boat as the OP. Only HD channels I watch that are not OTA are ESPN/ESPN2. Wish I could drop the rest. I guess college football is almost over. I could probably drop from platinum to at120 and pay the $6 hd fee. HD-dvd has ruined it for me!

Actually said statement is dependant on whether he went retailer or direct. Retailer chains locally tend to favor programming over equipment, obviously as commissions are primarily paid based on continuing programming as well as installed equipment. There's several dozen retailers in this state alone that could care less whether or not you maintain AT60 if you go in under HD. If you breach the programming they'll hit you for the programming, the equipment and cancellations (not necessarily cancellation of the account, just dropping below a set minimum which affects their payments.)

Breach of contact through DISH is specific to whether the account remains active or not. But ANY changes of a programming or equipment nature affect commissions and residuals when contracted through retailers, so most retailers tend to charge the customer for making alterations to their programming and in fact the retailer's commissions.

But hey, if you're in a gambling mood, go for it.

Dish Family is the way to go !

When I called Dish and asked about dropping my programming to basic Dish Family, all they said they would charge me for additionally was the $6.00/month for not having HD.
