n the face of a growing number of mobile payment options, Walmart has opted to create its own. Launching in selected stores this month and expanding nationally by mid-2016, Walmart Pay will sit inside the existing Walmart app on iOS and Android.
Unlike Apple Pay and Google Play, Walmart is relying on QR codes to finalize payments in-store rather than using NFC technology. By selecting Walmart pay at any register, customers will then scan a QR code. Payment is then automatically processed using any major credit, debit, pre-paid or Walmart gift card the customer has previously entered into the app.
