http://www.usdtv.com Don't get me wrong, VOOM is already better
but...
USDTV is a novel idea executed poorly. Incorporating local TV with a
supplied selection of Cable channels digitally OTA is indeed novel,
but the selection of cable channels OTA from a single OTA-DTV channel
seems a waste of time, not to mention low resolution.
I'd LOVE to purchase VOOM for OTA channels HD Premiums and Cable HD
channels. I don't really need or want those all-day nonsense HDTV
channels or sub quality SD definition cable channels.
I believe that VOOM can really make a dynamic market penetration if
it buffered it's "everything from one provider" presentation and
allowed those with OTA, Satellite, and Cable to add VOOM as an
ancillary service for HD-OTA and HD-Premium and non-premium HD
channels such as HD-Bravo , HDNet, AND selections, that cable and
satellite doesn't offer.
CableTV varies from market to market, but Dish Network and DirecTV
are VERY finite in their HD offerings.
The token SD cable channels and HD selection that makes up VOOM's
base package is a hinderance to me from taking the service. Meanwhile
I'm sure there's an army of HD consumers out there like me who would
add VOOM for more HD without the crap.
In a good HD local market, I could EASILY survive with HD-OTA, some
HD Premiums, and HD cable channel alone. ~~~or~~~ VOOM Premium and
Cable HD added to my DBS service.
(I prefer my DBS over cable due to DVRs)
Hey VOOM, time to do a little ~nose to the grindstone~ market
research. There's a whole population of homes out there just waiting
for you if you would just do things a little different. Think out of
the BOX!
I hope your not locked to your existing programming package structure
by contracts. If so just evolve those cheesy SD cables channels to HD
as space and channels become available. Think quality over
quanity...While I really like SciFi channel, SD programming-channels
shouldn't grow...they should shrink...HD alone should grow for you.
One last point, I read a post about COFDM technology in an HD-OTA
receiver as having much more reliable reception advantages...example:
a $2 loop antenna taped up as opposed to a $100+ roof antenna...this
should be studied and looked at. USDTV does use COFD already. It may
be it's only strength.
One man's opinion...
