For those of you who can't wait for a VOOM DVR, buy cheap S-VHS VCR and use
the Mot STB's S-Video jack for recording. You'll need two S-cables for the
video and two pairs for the audio and it will only be 330 lines instead of
1080i, but you'll get your shows when not around.
My cable company offers a DVR for Hi-Def but their channel selection is
about 7 HD, and those are mostly OTA. What a joke!
S-VHS Vcrs are super cheap. I paid about $800 for a Panasonic in the early
1990s. I think my JVC was $200 about 3 years ago and it had digital
processing.
JVC has the best selection. I have hundreds of movies on S-VHS. In Japan,
you can buy/rent S-VHS tapes with almost 400 lines. That's almost DVD
quality. Why we got on the crappy 240 line "regular VHS" system is beyond
me.
