[VOOM] Tivo HD VOOM DVR

Hi all,

What do you guys think about VOOM teaming up with Tivo to develop HD
DVR? I think Comcast has announced that it is teaming up with Tivo
to develop DVR software interface while DirectTV is scheduled to
release its own DVR and moving away from current Tivo partnership by
2007. If VOOM can team up with Tivo, I think VOOM can snatch away
many subscribers from DirectTV and Dish as it provides the best HD
experience while Tivo clearly has the best DVR technology...

I think Tivo has a good interface, as evidenced by the loyal and passionate
following, but I think they play hardball with their licensing which is
probably why it took so long for Comcast to sign up. Even so, Comcast is
only using a small portion of the Tivo product. J

With all of Voom's other problems, I don't see wrestling with Tivo as being
a wise move at this point. Comcast is getting a little more proactive with
their hardware development, but I don't think that fits for Voom or even
Cablevision at this point in time. Get the house in order before getting
into that arena.

Remember, Voom and CVC don't do hardware and neither did Tivo until they
were forced to. I don't think that is a forte for any one of them. Stick to
what you know. A networked DVR is a big engineering task.
