[VOOM] Does Voom over the air antenna provide good reception?

Im wondering about the digital over the air antenna and the
reception. Does it provide good HD. I am also a little hesitant
about if Fox Sports Midwest will ever be added. And finally is the
the picture quality better than Direct Tv which I have now.
Thanks for any responses.

RE: [VOOM] Does Voom over the air antenna provide good reception?

Two words: HECK YA!!! Atleast where I live it does. Your mileage may vary.
Here I get to watch AWESOME!!! HD OTA shows such as ;

Desperate Housewives
Crossing Jordan
MNF
Still Standing
Listen Up
Everybody Loves Raymond
2 1/2 Men
NCIS
NYPD
L&O, L&O SVU
LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Soon to be ALIAS!!!!!!!!!!
CSI,CSI Miami (Rocks!!), CSI NY
Without a Trace
ER (but who cares|it sucks)
Joan of Arcadia
ThirdWatch
Medical Investigation

Most, if not all of the above shows, are just mind boggling to watch in HD
using the OTA antenna. I've had Voom and using the supplied OTA antenna for
6 months now and just this past Tuesday watched Thee most incredible, awe
inspiring, mind boggling, amazing, incredible(ok I'll stop) NYPD EVER. It
was sooooooo clear that you swear they were standing two feet in front of
your face and you wanted to ask them where they got their new shirts from
and who dry cleaned them because you could see the creases and how much
starch was used. The most incredible picture I have probably ever seen of an
ota show. yeah,6 months and I'm still like WOW this is awesome! Voom, unlike
a lot of things people buy new, doesn't wear off and give you that old your
used to it feel..

My Mom and Dad also have Voom (man I wish Voom had a referral pgm!!) and Dad
just called me last night about Discovery HD (601). I turned it on and with
he in Florida and me here in Texas, we watched it and were like "Wow! did
you see that! Holy Cow! .." it was funny. but the point is the Voom HD stuff
is mind boggling awesome!

Hope this helps,

Jimmy did you have to ask to get that CM4228 or was it provided first
time out? I live 25 miles outside of Atlanta and am thinking the
Stealth won't do the trick from what I've read.

I'm getting most channels that are 30-35 miles away. The only one I don't
get is PBS and it's only 13 miles away, but it's at 353 degrees and the
others are all at 99. I'm hoping that by raising the antenna over the roof
line I will get PBS.

Yes voom upgraded me to Channelmaster 4228. It gets me excellent reception. Since I had it installed back in April 2004, I haven't had any more problems with receiving all my local stations. I not using a amp or preamp either. The Channelmaster 4228 is rated for 65+ miles and is a long-range directional UHF antenna.

I requested this antenna to Voom. I explained all the problems I was having with the stealth antenna that was orginal installed. Actually, the stealth antenna was the wrong type of antenna accroding to www.antennaweb.org to use in my area. So Voom approved my to receive the Channelmaster 4228.

I had to ask Voom for this type of antenna.

This antenna is awesome and the recception is great. the only time I cannot receive OTA broadcast if the stations is down/having problems or if I loose power at my house.

Which area is that? I'm between Lawrenceville and Snellville do you
think I should request it when I order? I would like to have a
flawless install with no repeat visits. But I'm also aware that
perfection is tough to come by.

i also live outside atlanta

I live in the Carrollton/Villa Rica area. I am getting installed next week. I told the CSR that I will need the upgraded antenna, she tried to argue with me. I told her that if I don't get all of my locals with the supplied antenna, they can stick it; I don't want it.
I got an email from Installs confirming my appointment. I emailed them back telling them they better bring the upgrade antenna or they will be wasting both of our times.

Trust me, they'll be wasting both of your time. They will NOT show up with
anything BUT the 18" dish. They attempt to install it, if you let them, and
assuming you're right and it doesn't work, they tell you they need schedule
another service call to come back with the upgraded antenna.

Robert,
That was my experience too! you have to live with the 18" first and if it
doesn't work and you present a strong enough case they will grant you a
bigger one. When you think about their costs for two service calls it
doesn't make sense does it? I imagine they have a pretty large inventory of
18" dishes that have the VOOM logo that they'd like to use up before
switching everyone to a bigger dish or the elliptical one.

I was referring to the OTA antenna, not the dish. Although, I anticipate having to call and raise hell about the dish at a later time.

Same thing though. They start with the minimum standard and then give you
something better if you present a good case; either bigger dish or better
OTA antenna. At least they do try to get you a system that works. It just
costs VOOM more money than they really need to spend and costs you time on
the phone.

I called Voom back as well as Installs and told them to go ahead a approve me for the upgraded OTA antenna. The CSR tried to stiff arm me, but I was having none of that. Voom said they would try the standard antenna first, which is the CM stealth antenna. I got em! According to CM website, the stealth is only rated for 30 miles UHF. I live over 40 miles to the nearest tower according to antennaweb.org, which is their bible they like to use for installing OTA.
So I asked the CSR, why should I waste a half day off work for something we both know that is not going to work? And I reminded them that when Installs comes out, this is their only shot; I am not going to take off work again so they can come back two weeks later to install another antenna. From Voom's standpoint as well as a stockholder, why would Voom want to have to pay Install's Inc. for two service calls and the upgraded antenna, when they could have done it right and brought the upgraded antenna the first time?

Why? To save equipment money. And there is a chance that you
wouldn't complain after the first antenna was installed.

Voom is bleeding Cablevision dry. It won't last much longer.

As for the OTA antenna, it works but nothing spectacular. I live
about 45 miles northeast of downtown Phoenix...most of the TV towers
are another 15 miles or so south on South Mountain. With the
supplied OTA antenna, I could not receive ABC or PBS, but NBC and CBS
came in fine. Instead of messing around with more installations, I
bought Winegard's HD9095P yagi antenna (about $75), and now
everything works fine.
