My wife uses Vonage for her home/office and there are the occasional problems but they usually go away quickly. I'd be more concerned about their financial health but it you're not worried of the service went away without any notice then I'd go with them.

I just got AT&T CallVantage.. they sent us the Telephone adapter and for 25 bux a month it includes local/long distance unlimited as well as a ton of website features (like voice mail that can be viewed from the website, emailed to you, call filtering, etc..)
I'm on the $15 Vonage plan as we only use it as the "Mom" phone (not quiet as glamorous as the Bat Phone) it includes 500 minutes does me fine.... Now if only Comcast could keep their damn connection up I wouldn't get calls from my Mother in-Law forwarded to my Cell!!!
My brother has had vonage for a few years on comcast and he never has any problems with it, I just switched to comcast for my tv and internet because i just moved and was thinking of getting vonage for a home phone line but i have alot of cell minutes that i dont use so i see no need for it at this time
Some of Comcast techs in our area couldn't find their a$$ with both hands (some are very good too!!) but we are in a smaller ex-adelphia market, when it was adelphia I went a year and a half without any connections dropped now it is comcast I expect problems about once a month and Verizon DSL in our area is just as bad....
If I didn't have the FiOS Triple Play discount, I would go with the ViaTalk 2 phone lines and 1 year free (2 years) deal for $199. The Verizon landline phone is going to get yanked as soon it goes to full price.
I just thought that I would add my two cents to this thread. To make a long story short, the other night I couldn't sleep, so I turned on the tv and there is a info commerical for this device called a magicjack. It looked interesting. So I watched it. You plug the device into any computer(it helps if it has xp or vista) then it installs its software and is basically ready to use. You then plug a phone into the magicjack. All this cost $40 plus shipping. For your money you get the device and one year of service. After that 1st year is over the service is $20 a year. You get unlimited local and long distance. I just got mine today and let me tell you it works great. I guess that the biggest drawback is the fact that they are fairly new and don't have all area codes. I live in El Paso(915) and I had to select San Antonio(210). If they don't have your area code they will give you one free phone number change when they get it. I will only use it for long distance. Voice quality great. You might thing about trying this magicjack. Their web site is magicjack.com Their tech support is not what you would call the greatest.
$9/mo with Viatalk for around 4 years, unlimited, has every feature known to man; full internet access panel; softphone; and I have not had any issues with it.
Sounds very much like BetaMax group of companies (Voipbuster, Internetcalls, Voipcheap, etc.)
The difference is: BetaMax costs about $45/year and has most of the developed countries in Europe
(and some undeveloped like Russia) for free as long as you call landline. North America is free with any phone.
OTOH, you don't get a phone number from them in North America.
