I have an Archos 605 (firmware 2.1.04) and a vip722 (firmware 616). The vip722 is 5 days since installation and the Archos is 3 weeks old. When I go to transfer content from the 722 to the Archos error 841 occurs stating that the content is HD. I have tried at least 10 different SD channels and get the same error everytime.

I have spent MUCH time with both Archos and Dish and each blames the other for the error. I have posted a thread on an Archos forum and no one has claimed a similar problem.

I figured I'd try the Dish forum to see if anyone had any insight into what may be going on.

I hope someone can shed some light...thanks in advance

I swear I just read about this problem a day or two ago, but I don't know where.

The problem was that the user was an Eastern Arc customer, and the Archos doesn't handle MPEG4.

There's no solution of course.

Product descritpion:
The 605 supports a wide variety of video formats including MPEG4 and ASF up to DVD resolution with no frame drops...

I have a similar post on an Archos forum and no one else has admitted to the same problem. My vip722 is only 5 days new...I am wondering if there is something "different" about the newer 722's.

As for channels, I have tried at least 10, all sd-including Nick (which is only in SD) and USA which other Archos users have used successfully.

Contact with Archos blames Dish...Contact via phone with Dish blames Archos...e-mail contact with Dish tells me that "it is a software problem that our engineers are aware of" which I am guessing is a canned answer?

Again, the symptons lead me to the vip722 as the cause since it IMMEDIATELY gives the "HD content" error 841 when I chose a recording.

Thanks for your replies and look forward to more!
Nick

When they write "MPEG4" they really mean MPEG-4 part 2, which is a different codec than MPEG-4 part 10, or H.264/AVC, which is what Dish uses for HD and I guess SD for Eastern Arc. They call out H.264 separately in their product specs, that's how you know they're not including H.264 with "MPEG4".

The 605 appears to require an optional plug-in to support H.264. Even then, you still might not be able to download and play SD Dish H.264.
