VIP211k Playback with Travler Dish stored

We use Dish's VIP211k set top box with a Traveler Dish on the roof of our motorhome. The problem we have is minor, but annoying. We have an EHD that we use to record shows, but when we want to play them back at a later date we can't unless we first raise the Traveler dish, which stores in a folded down position when we're driving. I'm wondering if this is the way the system is designed (which seems really dumb to me), or if it's just some kind of installation problem. If it is an installation problem, how would I start to troubleshoot the problem?? Thank you.

Welcome to SatelliteGuys! I think that is the way it works, I haven't tried to play anything with my 211k when not hooked up, but my 622's EHDD's are not accessable.
