I finally decided to get a VS2000 as my initial receiver and wait for the price of PVRs to drop. It seems like this is the most popuplar. Just a question about the differences between the ViewSat Platinum and Extreme. Am I correct in understanding that the main differences are that the Extreme has component vid out and hardware blindscan? Also, the Platinum DOES NOT have AC-3 output (will in the future with firmware update), but the Exteme DOES have AC-3? - This is what I'm getting from this forum.. I'm looking at the specs on various sites and I have not seen any mention of AC-3 on either of these receivers.

I have the Extreme

Hi:

I do not know all that much about either, since I am still pretty new to FTA but I have the Extreme and can vouch for several of your statements.

The Extreme does have Component Video out and AC3 out (using it now).

It has the Hardware blind Scan as opposed to the Platinium's Firmware blindscan. (Did not know the Platinium did not have AC3 though). I am anxiously awaiting their new manual as their site states! www.viewsatusa.com
You can D/L a copy of the Viewsat 2000 manual as well

THE HARDWARE BLINDSCAN IS PRETTY QUICK TOO.

All in all I like the receiver, but have heard some other members griping about USALS implimentation in the Extreme (apparently has troubles). I have not tried it out myself yet but I will this spring when my dedicated motorized dish goes up...right now it is piggybacked on my BUD w/ 4DTV.

PQ is good, channel changing speed is good and it is fairly intuitive (else I would never have gotten it working!:D ) It seems to have a lot of memory that perhaps can be used in future firmware upgrades. Like you I am awaiting the next crop of receivers with PVR's!!

God, I wish the FTA makers could learn to write a manual!
regards
jeff
