VHS To Hard Drive Help

I like what I'm seeing with Apple TV and it looks to be the place I want to store my video library, especially my VHS stuff.

So, I need to rip the VHS to my computer's external hard drive and that is either XP or Vista in my house.

But I wanted to see if any of you have ripped your VHS to your computer and how you did it. PQ...good audio..ect.

How do I get it there physically and how can I save it to mp4?

I've used a Replay Box and the Hauppauge with varying results, both "flake" out a little from the VHS signal.
