I have a cheap model 300 hooked up to my VCR at work. I can record programs without a problem so long as I have the D* reciever on and tuned to the station I want to record. Is there a way to have the reciever come on at the same time as my VCR to record unattended channels? Or is this reciever the bottom of the barrel for this. Thanks

I'm not aware of any D* receiver that will "turn on" at a specified time. What you can do is schedule autotunes from the guide and leave the receiver on, then set your VCR to record at the appropriate times.

Will the autotune automatically switch to the appropriate channel when needed?

The old Hughes box (non Tivo) has the ability to switch the channel using the
program guide grid of upcoming tv shows.

And I think it will control a VCR too.

There were several different models in the Hughes line.
the later 90's and early 2000's.

There on ebay nowadays.
