ok got both of my coolsat 5K's fixed (one through Freetech and its 5 year warrenty) its almost back to normal seems to have a strange quirk or two which the longer its running seems to improve. The second coolsat 5k developed currupted software and had to reload it.

the Traxis 3500 is working great ( still no AC-3) and although the traxis is a bit faster , i like the menu system of the coolsat + i like the remote too.

ok the V-box III was different to set up, ok got all the wires hooked up , simple enough plus i verified these connections with fellow boardmember Linuxman (thanks) from there it went south quickly. :) lol

first i tried to set the east & west limits ( manually first) but both seemed backwards. so i swapped the red & white wires. this didn't seem to affect the unit so i continued on. I then had to swap them back so it would match the direction the STB thought it was moving the motor & dish.

At the sugestion of Linuxman i set my TS sat at 000 and started.

ok i connected the coolsat up to it and proceeded to store satellite locations using DiSEqC 1.2 . All this worked as layed out until i got to the forth satellite and the receiver saved the location to one i know i already used. strange so i went back to verify and yep two satellites now have the same location.

ok i have a work around for this . i proceeded to follow the V-Box III manual and started storing satellite locations manually and writing down the positions. when i had done 5 or 6 i went to the channel editor ( and i'm getting better with coolsats channel editor) and located each satellite and loaded the satellite position for it and set the motor to 1.2. loaded the channel information back to the STB and checked .... everything worked correctly.

i want to try it again with my other coolsat 5K (because i think it might have been one of those quirks that needed to be worked out).

overall i can tell i will like moving my big dish with the V-Box III . Its quick, simple, fairly easy to install to current setup and it takes the DiSEqC commands to move the motor plus i have a DiSEqC switch between it and the dish so it handles that well also.... and did i say Quick ..... Its able to make fine tune adjustments and recalulate ....... it has a remote ( yea i need another one ) :D

the instructions are in the manual area. Once you get used to it its easy to setup and move the dish around. but i guess with me nothing starts off easy :)

i still don't have the limits set on the V-Box III but the motor has limits and i have written down the limit #'s so i won't go past them.

here are a couple of pictures enjoy oh yeah the unit is 6 inches Wide X 9 inches across the front X 3 inches Tall

Congratulations on your project George, and thanks for the pictures. I have a V-Box II, since Linuxman first wrote about his (how long has that been???). I have yet to put it in service, I have a 5' solid aluminum dish, with an AJAX H-H motor modified mount, that I plan to use it on. I have no excuse for not already having it in place. Just another thing on my very long list of things to do. But it's good you're not as lazy as I am. Good Job !!!

Al

I'm just glad to hear you got your Coolsat 5000's fixed up.

...and the info on the V-box was good, too! ;)
There may be one of those in my future.

Nice pix.
