Now it seems like its a buggy piece of equipment.

I already swapped one out due to these issues.

1. OTA channels keep getting dropped out of my guide and I have to do the rescan every week or so.
2. It reboots itself for no reason at all, or it just freezes up.
3. It goes to searching for signal when the 722 in the other room is on the same channel and is working fine.
4. I press the guide button and it will lock up and then unfreeze. 20 seconds later.

I love Dish, but this is supposed to be one of their top of the line recievers and anymore I would rather go back to the 622 I had, at least it worked and I could enjoy watching TV....

Any electronic device can go bad suggest you contact DISH Tech Support they may suggest to replace it after a few tests.Good Luck!:)

See, I know that. But I installed this stuff for three years. Once Dish goes into putting them back out as reconditioned they are pretty much junk.

Ive had two 922's and they both do the same thing..

The 922 has always been a buggy receiver but it seemed to get a lot worse(at least for me) after the Blockbuster update. Mine powers up with a black screen about every other day. I have to launch the Weather Channel app., start watching a dvr recording or do a front button re-set to get it to work again. It's starting to get very annoying. This is the 2nd 922 I've had also.

As soon as they come up with a OTA tuner for the Hopper I will be switching. Hopper/Joey has had it's own share of bugs but they seem to be more stable than what I have now.

Call DISH and say you want to cancel. THen they will send you to the loyalty department in order to retain you. Then make your plea for a FREE install to a hopper /joeys in place of the buggy 922. They should be able to upgrade you in order to keep you. If they don't then I would consider actually changing providers. The 922 was the buggiest receiver I have ever had, next to the original webtv/dishplayer. Life is to short to put up with a failing buggy receiver. Especially when you consider how much you are paying monthly for the "pleasure" of putting up with the 922.

I wanted the VIP922 with the MT2 module after I compared it's features to the Hopper and what I needed in a satellite system, the 922 and 211ks I use work very good, now maybe it's different because I bought mine and I own it.My first 922 went bad(it was making a grinding sound)when the DISH Tech heard that over my speakerphone they automatically recommended replacement.I moved my second 922 to a different place to get more airflow because I believe my first went out due to a heat related issue(it was in one of my entertainment centers cubbyholes)So far my second one is working good(it's on the top of my entertainment center now). When a receiver goes bad on me I try to figure out what caused the problem and how to correct it.

Now since you installed them for three years i'm sure you already know how to access your Counters in Diagnostics and have already checked to make sure your problems are not heat related.I wish you the best in trying to solve your problems, maybe the Hopper would work better for you.Good Luck!:)

My 922 was working great until the BB at home "upgrade". Now I cannot rely on it to actually record any more. It misses quite a few recordings, gets stuck on the black screen (until you watch a DVR event), gets stuck in duo mode, etc.

I rather not have BB@home and go back to the earlier software, when it acted like it should.

I starting to think dish is going to just drop the 922 all together...

They have the Sling name, but arent doing much with it...

There were those who predicted just that when the 922 disappeared off of DISH's website.

But now the 922 is back on DISH's website to lease again(after the Blockbuster@Home software upgrade).

DISH keeps updating my channel logos on my 922 so it seems DISH is doing something with it,I don't know what else DISH can do with it,my sling works good transporting my TV2 in HD to my desktop through DishOnline.:)

I changed that for a 722k and it is better.
Also everything seems to be easier, or well not easier, but actually you can do what you want, becasue not all is automated.
And is really good. The only thing I am missing is the interfase, but this one is not bad.

For those reading this you should know the 722k has DISH's older menu and guide format.Where the 922 and the Hopper have DISH's new menu tile format with the Channel Logos guide.:)

But only the 922 is Sling loaded, where the 722k and Hopper need the Sling Adaptor.;)

I took out the OTA module and it seems to help. But, it does not help a lot. Before taking it out it would have to be reset every other day. Now it has to be done every 5-7 days.

What I do is every day check to see if I have live programming when taking it out of standby and PiP works. If it does, it will do all the recordings for that day. If it does not I have to reset it for it to do its recordings. It is quite the kludge of a workaround, but I have gone 2 weeks now with all the recordings working. I have not have had to do the full pull the plug reset yet (for when the red button does not do the trick) since I took out the OTA module.

I think the real problem is that for some reason it is not doing a full reboot in the morning at the "update" time. The diagnostics says it does an fsck (file system check) at that time +3 minutes which implies a reboot, but I suspect that something is not being reinitialized properly, it is a "soft" boot.

I agree, I have thought for a little while now that it it's not completing a full reboot. I wish they would spend time fixing these and also add some more apps. It is a travesty that these boxes can do so much but dish has them do so little

In Linux terms I suspect it is just killing off all services, going down to single user and doing the FSCK, and perhaps other maintenance, then starting services back up to multiuser mode. This might be faster, but I would prefer they go back to rebooting and stability.

Isnt that the truth, the 922 has so much more to offer and Dish isnt putting any effort into it other than Buggy software.

And those of us with a 922 for the most part are some of their top customers with $150+ a month bills. Things that make you go hmmmmm??? lol

I would also go along with the not doing a full re-boot after the nightly update idea. After I do my almost daily red button re-set the 922 remains stable until the next morning. Something to do with the nightly update seems to be causing problems.

Perhaps something dish's engineers could look into if someone could get them to break away from the hopper for a minute

922 failed the morning TV test this morning... The blank screen until you watch a DVR event and no PiP.... Reset switch to the rescue. Only 3 days this time, reset it last Thursday.

With the OTA Module out, the 922 will run cooler so you may have an "heat" issue developing.

I just happened to be up at 3AM this morning and witnessed my 922 do a reboot and normally do not have to do a reset except once in a great while.I do have my 922/wMT2 and 3-211ks plugged into the wall sockets(not into surge suppressors),plus they are all tied together with the DISH Sling Turbo Homeplug Adaptor.DISH has this verfied in My Account under My Equipment because it says Yes under Broadband Connected for all my receivers.

This is my 2nd 922,my first, I had in my entertainment center's cubbyhole,my average temp in there was only 128 degrees but my hard drive still went out(making a grinding sound).I now have my 922 on top of my entertainment center and it dropped my average temp 8 degrees.

I also had to do more reboots to my last 922.

Remove Sling adapter from Dish account?
