I currently have a dish 500 with DVR. Now that I got my new HD monitor I've been considering upgrading. Problem is I think the $200 upgrade fee is silly. But it does seem better than just buying an over the air HD tuner.
So I've been calling to weigh all my options. I had an interesting conversation with dish customer service tonight. She told me I could not receive the free upgrade promo even after my contract was up. So I asked her what then would keep me from cancelling and moving to DirecTV. Her response was I would be under a new contract with them. That's funny, she just told me that upgrading to HD would put me into a new 18 month contract with Dish!!
