I am trying to install a dish 500+ and cannot seems to get the receiver to recognize it properly. It was working fine with a 2 dish (110,119) (148) setup. Here is what Im working with.

Dish Network 625 DVR
Dish 500+ (110,119,118) pointed correctly
Dp34 switch (119- port 1 110 -port 2 118 -port 3)
DP separator
and I believe diplexer to other TV's.

In the menu under point dish it does detect all 3 birds (110,119,118)
However, when I press check switch it also detect all 3 birds and is green with the OK message but when I press Done. It gives a "problem with switch" error and wont let me exit the screen. Im pretty sure the dp34 switch is fine. I swapped it with another one to be sure and received the same message. I removed the separator and diplexer and same problem. Am i missing s setting in the menu? This receiver has me really frustrated since there is no manual setup.

It was working fine with the 2 dish 148 setup. All that was changed was the dish 500+ and the dp34. Shouldn't it just detect those and work? Is there something I need to do additionally? Anyone else have experience with this setup?

You can't use a DPP Separator with a DP-34 switch. You need to run two cables to the receiver with the DP34 or use a DPP44 switch with DPP lnb's and the separator.

I'm assuming that for your 500 (119,110) with 148 wing setup you were using a DPPlus Twin with the 148 going into the LNB in port (since you have a DPP separator, this is pretty much the only configuration that I can come up with). Because the DP-34 is not compatible with Dish Pro Plus Technology (the tech that allows two tuners to run off a single line), it requires two lines from the DP-34 switch to the receiver without using the DPPlus Seperator. If this is not a very good option for you, there is an alternative. You can put your Dish 500 back up with the DPPlus twin on it, and run a cable from the 2F port on the 500+ the the LNB In port of your 500 dish. I have not heard of Dish recommending this setup, but I have heard that it does work. This will give you 119/110/118.7 while still allowing you to use DPPlus, without having to purchase an expensive DPP44 or DPP33 switch ($70-175 or a lot of hassle running a second line saved) Let us know if you need more help.

Wow, great input! Thank you for that. I believe I understand what you are saying. Will the receiver only work with 2 lines connected from the dp34? Will it work with one line and leave out the dvr line? I like the idea of connecting the 2f port to the lnb input of the DPP lnb. I think I will try that too.

Thanks again for the awesome responses! :up:bow

Yes, you can use just one cable to the receiver. You'll get a message during check switch and the one tuner won't work, but the other tuner will.

I did just that when one of the lines in my two-line cable failed. It occasionally pops up a message about having a problem with your switch when you first turn it on but as long as you send all your DVR recordings to "TV1" you'll be just fine.
