With its retransmission consent battle with Dish Network in its second month and in light of comments by the satellite company’s chairman Charlie Ergen that its blackout of the channel is “probably permanent,” Univision CEO Vincent Sadusky said the broadcaster is ready to use the full power of its networks to encourage viewers to switch providers.

Univision went dark to Dish subscribers on June 30. In a conference call with analysts to discuss Q2 results last week, Ergen said the blackout with Univison was “probably permanent.”

In Univision’s own conference call with analysts on Thursday, newly minted CEO Sadusky said that he was taking Ergen’s comments at “face value.”

Sounds to me like Univision is getting desperate. Why would any provider renew, when custies can get Univision in so many different ways?

Univision also has its Univision NOW stream service $5.99 monthly and $49.99 annually.

Weird thing is that recently they made a change that required the viewer to enter his TV service provider acccount.

What happens if you are a Dish subscriber then? In order to watch Unvision you would have to pay extra?

And if you already pay cable or DTV who carry Univision, why would anyone pay extra to watch Univision?

I'd think that Univision won't come back to Dish.

Now that's hilarious in so many ways. First, if you're not on Dish how is "the full power of it's networks" going to reach and influence Dish subscribers? Second, it seems viewers are deserting you, not the provider, because you are a shadow of your former self, and three, there are viable alternatives to Univision so, good luck.

Here are some excellent way better alternatives to Univision...
Telemundo
NBC Universo
Estrella TV
Multimedios
That's what we have switched to for our Spanish programming needs. You're not missed Univision.

Univision Deportes is still on Dish (for now). The logo for Univision Deportes was recently removed from the guide and replaced with plain lettering, though. I don't know how soon that contract expires. I think Univision also has some other channels that are co-owned by other companies, and are still on Dish.

Univision also has Unimas, but it's basically more of the same kind of programs that you'd watch on Univision, I wouldn't know if Unimas was carried by Dish.

Remember AMC was off Dish Network for several months in 2012, but it came back.

Yeah, AMC, Lifetime and the Outdoor life Network which was renamed to something stupid at the time.

Obviously nobody seems to care or are threatening to leave in groves or it would be back up already.

Remember when Viacom went down there was such a backlash, Dish lost their ass as the channel was back in 3 days.

The only problem with Univision using their networks to encourage Dish customers to switch, is that dish customers can’t watch the network to see the commercial unless they can go OTA.

The national feed of Unimas, and any of their owned-and-operated affiliates previously carried by Dish, have been dropped. Viewers who live in markets where Univision does not own the local Univision and/or Unimas affiliates would still be able to see those channels on Dish.

Wasn’t that DTV and Viacom? Did Dish drop them?
Yes in 2004, I think, back when Viacom and CBS were still the same company. Directv vs. Viacom lasted a lot longer than just three days.

Maybe its a brilliant plan to save money on mpeg 4 receiver swapouts on the western arc
