Unhappy D* cust without service!

There's usually a more detailed story behind failed installs and customers getting specific about how things should be done is a leading cause.

Pole mounts where they aren't required seems to be a very sore spot with DIRECTV. I had a coworker that demanded a pole mount (because the landlord didn't want the dish mounted on the home) and it took seven visits by the installation company over four weeks to get it done (he had to install two different poles on his own because the first location they recommended had no LOS).

Your experience is not unique and it is not defensible, but you should admit that it is somewhat extraordinary.

D* doesn't own my house! I am the bill payer. If they don't like it, Well that's tough. So your saying the sup doesn't know what he's doing either?

I didn't pick the spot the sup did. He said 7 foot pole I went 10'. He said 2 feet deep and I went 3. I hope this wasn't for nothing!

I would call Directv and threaten to cancel and switch to DISH Network if they don't come up with a resolution soon.

But seriously, customers requesting pole mounts when pole mounts are not required is a big issue for most installers because you are creating un-necessary work for them that they don't get paid for.

If the Dish can go on the roof then great, if there is no line of site and a pole mount is required then the installer will do it, but requesting a pole mount when its not required is like asking an installer to do a wall fish for free. Unless you are willing to pay the installer for their extra time and labor, you will need to play installer roulette until you find someone willing to do the work for free.

One thing that pisses off installers more than anything is when customers start creating additional work for them that is not necessary.

I guess the installers would rather fall off roofs that an 6 foot step ladder.

I PUT THE POLE IN MYSELF! what part of that didn't you get! THE INSTALLER CAN KISS MY GRITS! I am not going to risk my neck falling of the roof! Risk a roof leak too? nope! not happen here! Its the side of the house or the backyard!

You guys want my business, You will do what I want or I will do it myself or find someone that will. You guys don't own the world ya know! :p

I got a 10' peice of 1 1/2 rigid galv pipe schedule 40. OD is 1.915 just a little shy of 2".

I was lookinf for fence post. They didn't have 2' in stock only 1 5/8 and 2 3/8. Local lowes had nothing close except black iron!

I didn't realize they had anything close to the right size. That should work but you may need to use some flashing or something similar to make it closer to 2".

Chip,

I have access to a pipe threading machine. I was thinking that I could make an adapter. 2" OD cold rolled round stock machined to 1.910 on one end and tapped to 1 1/2npt. Other end left alone. Piece lenght would be 8" inches long. 2" for npt end 6 inches for Sat dish.

I would use a coupling and thread the adapter to the pole.

Hope you get what I mean???

But I have flashing or sheet stock. Both are galvinized for rust.

I understand. It seems like a lot of extra work to me! I would use the flashing instead.

Chip,

I have the time now. And I don't want the installer to b*tch about something else! But will use flashing as needed!

Thanks

Given the OP's demonstrated PITA attitude, I'd walk (or run) away from this install in a heartbeat. You just know there will be TC's with a guy like that - so the installer would wind up working for nothing when all is said and done.

 Now I'm a PITA cool.

If the 1st installer showed on time without personal problems I wouldn't have an attitude. LOS my ass! Stay away dick, I'll do it myself. I have seen some of the work you guys can do. Not very pretty!

Maybe there's a job for him at Mickey D's. might be able to handle that one!

My issue started with lateness and He had a personal problem. I am not allowed personal problems in my job. I have to leave it at home or go handle the issue! I will do as much as I can to help or if you'd prefer stay the hell out of the way. Your call!

I just feel the The LOS is something you use to not do a job. OK fine. Bring me the equipment go sit in the van. I need the ASL-1 to make it fair and your bird dog. Take a nap or take off for early lunch. I will do the work wire run and rec hook ups. You come in and phone in the crap and get the install pay! But don't expect a tip.

The point is that you'll need to find a different way of acquiring the hardware (other than the standard professional installation).

Hah, You both know the customer gets his way, Don't you. Specially the real noisy ones.

Where would you be without the customer?

Remind us how well this has worked for you in trying to get D* service.

D* has recently demonstrated a willingness to let customers go if they become too demanding. More and more the act of going to the cancellation whip with retention has been greeted with termination of service.

Go With Dish

If you don't want NFL Sunday Ticket or MLB Extra Innings or MLB Network. Plus Dish's DVR's are great. I've been with them since 2005 and never had a problem.

Ya right! I plead my case and D* would probably roll a few heads. My only damand is no roof mount! If they don't like it I will gladly stay with E*. E* had no issues with that, I'm getting to damd old to get up on the roof!

But I am sure what your saying doesn't have anything to do with installs. Customers trying to over do it with free crap maybe, But b*tching about lazy techs. Come on! But if thats the case who need's D*. I have been with E* for over 2 years. No complaints except no Yes network.
