uhf antenna wiring

The uhf/vhf antenna setup I bought from a former employer also has what was supposed to be an amp setup. The RS power unit that plugs into the wall next to the TV has just 2 coax connectors on it - one for "from amp" & one for "to TV". I realize that for the run that goes up the mast to the amp, I need to run coax only, w/ no splices. The problem is that the (obviously older style) pre-amp / box has 6 flat lead connectors on it only - 2 for antenna #1, 2 for antenna #2, and 2 for downlead. It seems only natural to just run a conector for the coax to switch to flat lead just before it gets to the pre-amp. I am loosing my voltage from my power unit (needed to run my pre-amp) at that point, and am told there is no way to make a connection there that will pass voltage. No I don't want to go shopping for a new amp setup, and am still looking for suggestions on if there is any way I can make this setup work? Is it possible to just solder in an input coax connector inside my pre-amp box, replacing the two flat lead screws marked for downlead? Or maybe there is a splice connector that will allow voltage to pass? Strangely enough I had a very good signal for the first week or two, and then it lost about 90%, but my rabbit ears are still getting as good of a signal as they were beforehand.

try skipping the pre amp. Are any of your locals reverting to VHF, February 17? Nationwide, many are.

How far from the TV Towers are you?

You say your rabbit ears pull in a decent signal, As stated above, try not using the pre-amp.

Not all antenna set ups need a pre amp. I have a medium range roof top and never gave a thought to adding any type of amp to it.

I'm only about 25 miles from the tower farm and have solid 90-100% signal strengths. I also can pull in Chicago about 100 miles to the south on a good day.
