Two OTA modules?

I've had cable for a couple years now and lack of a decent whole home DVR as well as SEC Network is drawing me back to Dish. Cable carries a local from a neighboring market as well as several subchannels that Dish doesn't, so I'm looking into the OTA module to use with my attic antenna.

I can't seem to figure out this - hopefully someone can answer - does the OTA module have ONE tuner and that's all? For instance I record an hour and a half each Saturday night on a channel from the neighboring market (half hour show but often gets pushed back due to sports overrun). Would anyone else in the house be able to watch OTA channels on their Joey while that's recording? Can two rooms watch two different OTA channels at the same time?

If the answer to all this is what I think it is, then is it possible to add two OTA modules? Or to add an OTA module to a Super Joey?

OTA module is one tuner only. Meaning if you are recording on it, no other channel can be watched. Only one module per Hopper. If you had two Hoppers, you would have one more OTA channel.

You can add 1 OTA dongle to each Hopper, only. It gets one OTA channel at a time. With your satellite service, you get your local channels as part of the service. So, if you were recording on the OTA channel, your Joeys or Hopper would be able to watch the satellite local channels at the same time.

Unfortunately we rarely watch the local channels outside of the news. Mostly subchannels and neighboring market channels if we're not watching something that's cable/satellite only.

You can order an additional Hopper 2K for $49.00 or Hopper w/Sling for $99.00 upgrade charge (receivers will be leased) . When ordering through Dish, they require for you to have one Joey per Hopper. Since you did not say how many TVs you have, you may not need 4 boxes. Upon installation, just refuse the Joey(s). Or better yet, go through local retailer if you have one around.

We have 4 TVs so two Hoppers would not be an issue. Can the installer make that upgrade for me once they're here, or do I have to do that at the time I place the order?

The nearest retailer that's about an hour/hour-half away. Not sure if they'll travel this far but it's worth checking out.

Darn, means I'm going to have to call in. I don't see a way to do it online. They only seem to want to offer you a Hopper + Super Joey + multiple Joeys.

Thanks for the information everyone.

He either get the discounted 2nd Hopper upgrade at time of order (work order created), or he has to wait at least 1 year before he can upgrade to a 2nd Hopper at the discount upgrade price, right? Personally, I would cancel the work order, and then start all over to be sure to get the 2nd Hopper now at the discount upgrade price.

They were talking about the OTA Dongle.

If I understand you want to record one OTA channel while watching another OTA use your TV tuner. Just say'n

After its installed you can always order it online as well. :)
That probably depends on how the discounts stack up and whether or not the TS is up to installing the new configuration. All things being equal, getting the install right the first time is probably going to be the most advantageous and economic approach.

Doesn't sound like it. With the OTA dongle, there's no option at all to order it along with the initial (receiver/install) order.
Yep it was. Read from the top again. That's why Scott said order AFTER install.

I was more talking about someone in another room watching OTA awhile something is also recording OTA. TV tuner would require me to run a drop to every room, I'd rather run just one to the Hopper.

HD recording hopper/Joey
