Need some help here. Got two hoppers connected together because when I agreed to extend my contract I was told that I could use either one and have the ability to set all recordings from either one. Nope doesn't work that way and I don't get it other than they just don't have the talent to do the coding. I am only able to play remote content. So after arguing with tech support many times I finally am told after they sent a tech out that a super joey in place of one hopper would allow me to record 5 things all from either location. I'm wondering if this is in fact true.
Is there a downside to this other than giving up technically one tuner? Is it sluggish and can it still do the primetime anytime?
Thanks in advance.
D.

The Hoppers have 3 tuners each (6 total) and you can access the recordings on both when using them. The Hopper does have the hard drive so if you swap one out for a SJ You can record 5 things at once using just one Hopper. It is up to you what you want to do but I would just keep the 2 Hoppers as you can already access all recordings from one room.

Yes, can access recordings but can't tell remote hopper (have one in family room and the other in theater room) to record a show. This lies the problem. Can a super joey in say my family room tell the theater room hopper to record or if I put the hopper in family room and have super joey in my theater room tell hopper to record that is located in family room. Basically have 5 tuner access at either location. Does a super joey and hopper connected still have primetime? If so will there still be four additional turners available??
Thanks for the reply.

There is semi integration between two hoppers now as well. If you have three timers set up at the same time on one hopper, and you try to set up a 4th, it will move the recording to the other hopper. You cannot designate a timer over to another hopper otherwise though.

I just want it where I can have them combine to be like one hopper with 6 tuners for playback and recording. That's what I was told they'd do when I agreed to two more years. Its a pain to select the "remote" hopper to playback stuff and not know what's hopper recorded where? I just don't get why they can't do this? They should be able to seamlessly combine the two hoppers.

Having multiple people in my house, I'm glad they are seperated. I was exciting for the semi integration, because that makes it easier than having them come to me to figure out how to move between the receivers to set up recordings, or cancelling my stuff. Also, when my gf moves in with the kids, there will be a "real program" hopper, and a "kids cartoon" hopper. Just my input on it. I'm guessing it is at the level they wanted their system to run, but I do know DTV has theirs fully integrated, and personally I am not a fan, as I have to scroll through my brothers kids stuff, to find the stuff my bro recorded. He is also not a fan of that feature. He wants me to have them completely unintegrated, but I honestly to much work for me to call and wait on the phone to do that again. Maybe someday. The Super Joey will give you the full integration, but you will lose features, such as the extra Harddrive space, a single tuner, currently joeys do not have Netflix ability, and PIP on the SJ. Also, if the hopper goes down, the whole house goes down, where as with a 2 hopper setup, you have the 2nd hopper to fallback on and the joeys can link to it until a replacement gets there. Just some pros and cons.

It would be nice if dish could let you choose which way you want to go. Because I would get home from work last, my shows all got bumped in place of sponge bob and lame life time movies.

I would stick with 2 hoppers. once you set up your recordings, it doesn't really matter. Set one with PTAT and most recordings on the other. having twice as much recording space is better than the advantage the Superjoey offers.

I agree. Very much so.

I had two hoppers , but change to a super joey for one , just so I could have all my timers and shows on one box. My wife and I share the shows and my son has a few shows he watches on the joey. I make saved copies of my prime time shows so I can transfer them to my I-pad for watching while I'm at work at night. This has worked out well since DISH upped the limit of timers that you can make from 96 to a much larger amount. I have like 138 timers set right now. I prefer this to having to get up and go into the bedroom to make sure that a timer can be made in the other room. Often I couldn't get the shows to play on the other hopper without either black screens or without any sound. My wife would yell from the bedroom :"This damn box won't work right! I can't hear any sound!" I would get calls at work telling me this . Now with my hopper /super joey setup I don't have this problem. Everything is integrated on one box and is shared in any room on any of my 4 tvs. I only lose one sat tuner and the extra ota usb tuner by using my hopper/super joey setup, but I also don't have the frustration of having to go to the other tv to setup a timer or the audio /video problems with shows not playing from one hopper to the other. I realize that some of this has been fixed now ,but it was too late for me ,because I made the change last year before the software was fixed.
