Hi... Quick introduction and Long winded thread...

I am a newbie to the forum, I have been lurking around for the last 2 - 3 weeks, I recently have joined the world of FTA (or am trying to anyways). It looks like it is going to be a lot of fun, playing around. I have been reading a lot of interesting stories, issues etc. and trying to solve my current problem based on the information already out there... Yay internet...

I have a question though. I am currently banging my head against a wall trying to get my PCI configuration to work.

My System:
VisionPlus 1020a
Starchoice LNB (Older 2 Beercan style LNB) (LO 10750)
Starchoice Dish (30" Elliptical)
Microsoft XP/DirectX 9.0
Pentium 4, 3.2 GHz 512MB RAM
TwinhanDTV 2.42
MyTheatre 3.38

I Know I am locked onto either the Anik F1 (or Anik F2) satellite, as I use my old starchoice receiver as a make shift signal meter (to determine I have a strong signal) I Then disconnect the cable from the starchoice (once I determine I have a strong Signal, 80%) and plug it into the VisionPlus 1020a card.

I Also have a signal meter, so I can see that the 1020a is powering the LNB as I see the light come on in the signal meter, and it is registering a strong signal (which was also verified by the starchoice stb)

I use the TwinhanDTV software and scan Both Satellites and I get nothing, no lock, no channels.
My settings here:
LNB Freq1 10750
LNB Freq2 10750
Linear
All other setting set to "disable" (removed all switches in between)

I try using MyTheatre 3.38 Software for the scan, I still get nothing.
My Settings Here:
LOF1 10750
SW 0
LOF2 10750

"Apply" is always clicked after any modification :)

I have entered other tranponder information found around the web. Still no luck.
I tried manually entering in information from lyngsat for Anik F1 and F2 (KU Band. FTA transponders). Still nothing.
I even tried to manually add a single channel, the "Ontario Legislature Channel "from Anik F1 into TwinhanDTV. :)
Anik F1 -107.3
Freq: 11850
Symbol Rate: 19510
Polarization: H
VPID: 330
APID: 397

Still nothing. I have removed the external 22 khz switch from the LNBs (and am now going direct to one of the LNBs, Updating the settings in the Software to disable the 22KHz switching (reflected in the settings above)) repeated all steps above, and still nothing.

I have reseated the card in different PCI Slots in my computer, and re-tried all steps above. Still Nothing.

I have reinstalled the drivers and re-tried all steps above. Still Nothing.

I have tried installing the newer BDA drivers from the Twinhan website for the 1020a, but when I did, neither the TwinHanDTV, nor the MyTheatre would recognize that the 1020a was installed anymore. (Although the drivers installed and were working fine based on the detials in the Windows Device Manager) (So I rolled those back)

I tried installing the Latest version of TwinhanDTV (with the new drivers), but it would never start. It always had a "fatal crash" when I tried running the software. So, again, I reverted back to the original drivers/software.

I have searched forums and scoured the web for answers.

I have no switches between the LNB and 1020a PCI card.
I do not have any other TV capture cards installed in my system.

Interestingly enough My Twinhan 1020a Card always reads 58% Signal and 0% quality. It doesn't matter if there is a cable hooked up to the card or not, It always reports 58% Signal and 0% quality.

Sorry this is so long, but it is the culmination of 2 weeks worth of effort that is starting to seem futile...

I am thinking the card is dead... But I am definitely not above admitting "user error" if someone can please point out where I may be going wrong...

Sorry for the length of the post, Thanks in advance

quick correction, the Settigns in My Theatre are:

10750000 0 10750000

Forgot to add all the 0's... :)

Two LNB's ?

I would remove the most west one (Left one facing the dish), then with the Rightside LNB and your signal meter swing the dish over from 107.3 Anik F1 to 105 Amc 15. Try to tune 11740H for D105 channel on Amc 15.

I even tried to manually add a single channel, the "Ontario Legislature Channel "from Anik F1 into TwinhanDTV. :)
Anik F1 -107.3
Freq: 11850
Symbol Rate: 19510
Polarization: H
VPID: 330
APID: 397

Unfortunately that transponder is encoded with Digicipher 2, the Twinhan will only pick up DVB broadcasts. It is a different type of broadcast. It's like AM Radio vs. FM Radio (not exactly but close).

Ahhh, I see, in Lyngsat the first entry in the table tells you the encoding for hte transponder... I get it now... thanks... I thought the "F"s were also DVB.

I actually did get another bunch of transponders that were supposed to work (at least to lock onto a channel) but have hadno luck with these either:
Sat Pos FRQLO FRQIF SYMB POL
------ --- ----- -
---- ---- ---
ANIKF1 107 11902 1152 5859 H
ANIKF1 107 11911 1161 5859 H
ANIKF1 107 11919 1169 5859 H
ANIKF1 107 11933 1183 5859 H
ANIKF1 107 11941 1191 5859 H

I will give swinging over to AMC15 (105) a shot. Currently I am hooked in directly to the right LNB (facing the Dish) so I am not sure if removing the left will have any impact... (I do plan to replace them both eventually. I just want to get this working... baby steps :))

I will keep you posted...

Thanks

Success...

Exchanged the card.

It did not work, channels still would not lock in MyTheatre or the TwinHanDTV. Although it was now showing both Signal (63%) and Quality (98%),

So I Went through the following process.
(
Pre step I move My sound card from the First PCI Slot to teh Third PCI slot in my computer)
1. Removed Twin Han Drivers
2. turned off computer
3. Removed the Twinhan Card
4. turned on computer
5. verified Drivers were not loading
6. Turned off computer
7. Reinstalled old Haupage WinTV card (NTSC)
8. turned on computer
9. removed all Haupage drivers. (Trying to make sure there was not a driver conflict)
10. shut down computer
11. removed Haupage card
12. restarted computer
13. checked all Haupage drivers were gone
14. Turned off computer
15. Re-installed teh TwinHan 1020a
16 turned on computer
17. Scanned for channels in MyTheatre

Voila...

OK, I am sure there are extreneous steps there... But Since I am not sure which ones they are I figured I would log them all, and hopefully save someone else a week or two of effort. :)

Thanks everyone for their help and support.

Appreciated

Stuch.

I am glad you fixed it, now that I think about it, the day of live earth (July 7th) or 7/7/7 while looking for feeds my Twinhan stopped working, it took me a long time to figure it out.

Sorry that I didn't realize it was the same issue.

So to make you list a little bit shorter, this is what I did:

1. turned off computer
2. Removed the Twinhan Card
3. turned on computer
4. Removed TwinHan Drivers
5. Rebooted
6. Re-installed the TwinHan
7. Rebooted

And then everything worked again. Twinhan really should make a better uninstall program.
