Figured we may as well start a big list of links where you can find tv on the internet. These are tv and/or videos, which can be seen online or downloaded, not real IPTV. Some are gonna be p2p, some direct links to major networks' online streams, and others are off the wall stuff done by amateurs. Gonna add more and more as time goes on... There's lots out there.

(*mods - if you find need to edit this list, either do it, or whatever. I'm just posting this as informational - don't intend to lead people astray to bad or illegal junk - these are just links I've found online...*)

p2p TV Programs - they use p2p technologies... sort of like bittorrent for tv... (Legalities may be a grey area at the moment? These have got loads of tv stations... I've read both that it's illegal and that it's not illegal on several websites. I guess I can see both sides of argument - illegal to get a pay tv channel that you aren't paying for - but not really any more so than going to a bar to watch a game on espn or whatever... guess in a way, the networks should love this stuff since it's really getting their ads to more folks...):

So far, I haven't found any free ways to record p2p tv stuff listed above. I checked out Sourceforge.net (the main spot where open source programs start, grow, and develop) - nothing's there for recording p2ptv... If someone knows of one, please mention it in this thread. Thanks!

It seems weird that players are all over the place for this stuff but not too many recorders... For some reason, probably the same reason we don't see recorders for these that are free, the tv signals on these programs won't show up on my tv after running the line to the tv from the all-in-wonder card. It's just a big black area on the screen where the program is running, which is really weird since the programs show up on the main, normal, computer monitor fine, and all other things on the monitor can be seen fine in the tv (got it set up so that tv is a clone of the monitor)... I think it must be something with a direct x issue or something?

I'm really loving the free video on demand stuff from NBC, Yahoo, and other big networks and bigtime cahoonas. Anyone know of more links to that stuff? I know cnn and msnbc both have some video footage on their sites, but it's nothing like in2tv.

If you have an XBOX and have/know how to install XBMC you can stream either TV directly from the internet or using one of the many P2P TV software packages (TVUPLAYER, TVANTS, PPLIVE). For a guide to setting up Streaming TV from you PC to the XBOX check this link:

XBMC supports most standard video and audio formats and it's open source (FREE). Well worth a look if you don't know anything about it already. You can pickup second hand XBOX's for next to nothing these days off Ebay.

VLC Media Player

Not only does it play most streams on most platforms, you can usually capture the streams to files and do with them as you will.

But I don't have a pc running Media Center. I only have windows 2000 professional... Does it take MC on my pc to make it work?

You don't have to have media center. You can browse your network shares by going to the workgroup option in XBMC. You can also edit the XBMC's settings to open an HTTP stream. Go dig around XBMC's site for more info.

uh... been doing some reading and stuff. Are p2p players really legal? More I read about them, the more I'm thinking they may not be legal, especially if the signals are showing network tv instead of user created channels that contain user created content... yep, you can create your own channels in tvu with the server thingy.

I'd hate to think that a list like this that I started here is going to get some people sued someday down the road, or that somehow by creating this list it's gonna get the fbi knocking on my door down the road....

Anyone got the real answer?

I dont see the harm in watching a p2p channel I cant even subscribe to. such as guangdong sports for example. Some of the feeds people have put up are FTA backhauls too! I have watched a couple UEFA Champions' League feeds that were backhauls streamed from European Sats.

Yeah, i read some on the XBMC software and I don't have anywhere near the skill to mess with that stuff. And I definitely would not want to mod my 360 with it if i did...

It's called Overlay. Basically the hardware acceleration makes it show up fine on your monitor, but not using TV-Out. There's a few ways to get around it. In some applications (such as VideoLAN) you can go into the options and turn off overlay. That will get it to show up. Another way to do it is to go to your Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot tab. Sliding the hardware acceleration back a notch or two usually turns off Overlay and lets the video show on the screen. Also remember that after adjustments like that, you may have to restart whatever program it is you're using.

I personally use TVU Player, as it has a few spiffy channels and is incredibly point-and-click easy. The legalities certainly are a gray area, but as was pointed out, with all the commercials on the re-broadcasted networks someone should be happy about it
