they keep telling me I WOULD NOT be getting any SD channels from the turbo HD pack as its total HD What I want is to down convert them from HD to SD ad I DONT have a HDTV but maybe in the future CAN THIS BE DONE ? what satellites would these be coming from ?
PLEASE HELP because I really like those packages and they seem to be cheaper

1. All Dish Network STB's have analog SD outputs, so an HD box can be connected to an SDTV using one of the analog outputs. So, the HD is already down-converted for you via the analog outputs (S-Video or composite or component at 480). While the down-conversion won't be in HD, the PQ will be better than the SD equivalent channels.

2. I believe that Dish does, in fact, open all the SD equivalent channels of the HD only packages. So, you would, in fact, have the SD feeds as well as the HD feeds. Dish unlocks the SD equivalents because some people have the old Pocket Dish or the Archos recording devices that can only have SD input to them (there is supposed to be a model very soon that can handle HD input) and the SD channels are also opened to allow you the option of recording to DVR the SD channel for some programs (such as talking head shows) so that you can save space on your DVR for more HD recording.

Of course, this is if Dish is installing you, then you will be looking at satellites for both the SD and HD channels. If you are the Eastern Arc, you will be looking at 3 sats for SD and HD or at the at the Western Arc, 3 satellites for SD and HD. This is the standard install for HD now. This is how Dish wants all installs to be even if you are subscribing to even an HD only pack. It gives Dish flexibility to move channels around the 3 satellites for greatest efficency without you losing any programming. However, for someone else subscribing to SD packages only, then Dish installs, in most cases, only what is necessary to receive the SD channels only. When that person is ready to subscribe to HD, they will have to pay the upgrade to look at the sat that has most of the HD on it.

I hope this answers your concerns. Don't worry, you will have the ability to do what you want to do.

Yes, you will get SD channel equivalents of your HD channles at 110 & 119 if you are the WA. Different sats for EA, but the same SD and HD channels. The standard HD install for the WA is looking at 110 (Some SD & a few HD) , 119 (SD only) , and 129 (the vast majority of HD channles). You will be seeing all 3 sats and receiving services from them even with the HD only packs.

I for one always watch the HD channels (the HD feeds) on my SDTV because the PQ is better than the SD feed. The HD boxes allow you to fill the screen with picture or view with black bands on your SDTV. I don't like the PQ of the SD channels (SD feeds).

About your boxes being changed-out: Your SD boxes will only be able to display SD channels only. So, if you have one now connected to an SDTV, that box does not have to be changed out, if you don't want to do so. if you get an HDTV to replace that SDTV, you will not see any HD channels and upgrading the box could be costly with another commitment. If you think you will get an HDTV soon, then find out from Dish the most HD boxes you can get that they will subsidize and get them now, cheaper. They will connect them to your current SDTV and you won't have to do a thing when you get your replacement HDTV.

The necessity of any of your SD boxes being changed out has more to do with the kind of install performed so that all equipment is compatible. In addition to installing so that you get your new services, Dish will install so that you continue to receive the same services you do today at no additional charge, even if they have to use an expensive switches or LNBF's or dishes or change-out your older SD box for a newer SD box, all at no additional charge.

I hope that helps.

What you are doing is called account stacking and is frowned upon heavily by Dish, i.e. they may sue you for the lost revenue for the other account you should have had AND/OR terminate service.

Each house must have its own account.

Your greater concern should be whether or not they will offer you the Turbo HD package any more. They have removed most vestiges of it from the website and it may not be possible to convert to it. IIRC, it was never really easy to convert to when it was offered.

oh i looked at the turbo hd website and it says all are ? could I maybe switch to directv for a better package setup

well i am interested in RFDTV though but already get that also I wish they would put a southern gospel music video channel on dish

they need a package that is like 10 or 15 bucks a month with just cnn msnbc hln cnbc bloomburg and channels like that I guess if they soon dont come out with a NEWS pack I may just switch to FTA....I am a fairly new dish customer and didnt realize that I had to have a HD tv to watch HD channels dish CSRs keep telling me they WILL NOT upgrade me without not having a HDTV
guess I should of knew

you cannot have turbo hd if you have any mpeg2 equipment on your account. as for the turbo hd packages, they have been remove from the dish website. fox news and fox business is not avail on the turbo hd pacakge.
