Trouble getting signal on new Panasonic

I am having a problem with a new Panasonic plasma TV finding the input signal from my Dish 322 receiver. Not sure why. I disconnect the coax cable from my old TV (that is getting a perfect signal) and connect to the new TV at the antenna/cable jack. I have the new TV do a scan and it is finding nothing. I connect to the OTA antenna and scan for channels and it gets them all and displays perfectly. So, I know the TV works and scans fine. It is for some reason not finding the signal from the satellite input. I have done the scan a couple different ways (cable/antenna, digital/all, etc) and my results are always the same.

Any ideas why it is not finding a signal that I am sure is being carried by the cable?

Once I establish that it can find a signal my thought was to go from the coax input to the S-video. But, my hope was to first see how the signal looks over the coax, get the remote working with the new TV (which I did) and go from there.

Did that.

Pretty sure I tried that. I am thinking that before you even do that you scan for channels/input. It ought to detect something. Then you can set your TV for channel 60 (in this case).

Congrats on the new TV. Welcome to the mouth of the cave that is the (seemingly) endless HDTV upgrade path. Once you've decided that watching a 322 on your TV is painful, and you can't do it anymore, you'll order a 222k, and spend another $10 per month to feed it HD channels that don't make your eyes water. Then you realize that your $30 Coby DVD player doesn't cut it, either, so off to the Big Box for an upconverter. Once your eyes have adjusted, and you can recognize that doubling the lines on a DVD only helps so much, it's back to the Big Box for a $200 Blu-ray player.

Enjoy! :D

Just recounting my experience, which is NOT unique. :)

Honestly, in your shoes, I'd leave the rabbit ears or outdoor antenna hooked up to the TV's input, that way you can at least watch your favorite local network TV as it's intended. I simply cannot stand watching an SD source if an HD source has the same stuff on it.

The good news is that DishStore.net has the 222K for $230, which is worth every penny if you don't want to extend your contract by invoking the Dishn' It Up process. Of course, if you already lease your box, and have no intention of leaving Dish, you can probably get one for free. The 222K is a great box; for $35 you can add two OTA tuners (better picture quality that Dish HD LiLs via satellite), and the option to add an EHD ($40 fee + your choice of disks) to get DVR functionality.

Slippery path

Yes, I have realized that I have now gone down the slippery path.

What I intend to do in the near future is to move my receiver to where the new TV is and change the remotes, etc. I can at least use the S-video from the receiver which will produce a slightly better picture. The antenna for OTA is doing a good job so I will plug that either into the antenna jack on the TV, or into the receiver to watch local programming, particularly for the sports. Sadly, one of the first things I watched the other day was my Green Bay Packers get licked by Viqueens. I am not real sure that the receiver box will pass the antenna signal as HDTV. Then, I can perhaps drop locals off my bill.

Then, yes the inevitable desire for the blu-ray. I think I can wait until the prices come down.

At some point there desire for all HD programming will get to me. Then I will have to weigh my options with Dish or some other source.

The 322 doesn't know a high-def antenna signal from a standard feed, so it will pass through. However, if you unsubscribe from locals, the guide data won't work for local channels anymore.

I think you'll see $99 Blu-ray decks this Christmas. You get what you pay for, but it'll be a foot in the door.

I think that if you can get a CSR to give you a 222k for free with a contract extension, you'll be on the right track. For another $10 per month over and above what you're already paying, it's really not that bad of a deal.

couple problems

I realize I will lose the guide. That pains me a little as the new TV I got has horrible "info" and no Guide as I have seen on a lot of other HDTVs.

Two other issues. I don't have any type of contract with dish and I didn't pay anything for equipment upfront. When I asked them what it cost to upgrade it was getting pretty pricey. I also have the cheapy family package. So, I would need to upgrade to one of their other packages and then add the $10/month.

It would cost me more than $10/mn most likely.
