Would there be a particular reason that only even number tp 2 through tp 12 are not being picked up by my receiver?

Foliage, dish misalignment, cable corrosion, switch mailfunctioning, sat tuner going to break, connectors, bee hive in LNBF, bad LNBF, bad ground, etc.

Actualy, if you reading sometimes the forums, ppl who ask such question provided DETAILS. Or asked to.

Thanks, was it so difficult to list some reasons as opposed to just giving a wise response? I read these forums and I haven't seen anything specific as to what I asked. FYI, I was intentionally vague as I wanted the responses to be as general as possible. I have learned from reading these forums that when you are too specific people tend to focus on one particular thing (the receiver model, type of switch, etc) and therefore the responses don't cover alot of ground. Thank you though for your second response.

I understand that you were purposely asking a broad question, but you aren't going to get a good answer doing that. We need to know specifics to diagnose the problem...
thats like going to a mechanic and asking "whats wrong with my car"... without more details it could be ANYTHING

to answer your question.... ANYTHING
there are a ton of reasons why you can lose just certain transponders, only odd or even transponders, ect... basically any part of the system starting to fail, getting a weak connection somewhere in the line, coax that is not good enough quality, moisture in the line, ect.

If you are asking this question because you have observed this while experimenting with the "Point Dish" feature, but you are not experiencing problems, it could be that you are observing the spotbeam transponders that are not designed to cover the entire U.S. because they have LIL (Local channels into Local cities) in other cities miles away from yours.

Of course, that was a stab at an answer as you provided few details.

Thank you for your responses, believe it or not these are the type of responses I was hoping to get. I do know enough to be able to eliminate many of these probable causes on my own, which is exactly what I was trying to do. I wanted as many ideas as possible so that I could narrow it down, then get more sppecific as I was zeroing in on something. Sorry if you don't like my appraoch, but as I stated people tend to narrow these things down for you when they hear too many specifics, and leave some of the basic causes behind.

OK, some more specifics: These are only the even number transponders between 2 and 12 that are not coming in, and yes I am supposed to be receiving channels on each of them. This problem was only happening intermittently, but now seems to be permanent. Problem does not occur on all receivers in my setup. I have swapped receivers around to eliminate cable runs, etc as the source. All receivers are up to date with latest sw. Any ideas from here?

I'm give up.

The case remind me old medical practice of gynecologist in arabic country - you can't see a patient's body, you can't touch it, you can't ask direct questions, etc.

and what satellite are we talking about here? 110 has so many spotbeams that you won't see signal on those transponders unless you're in the fringe area. If you're talking about another satellite 119, 129, etc then you obviously have a problem with cable, trees, lnbs.

But we need to know what satellite you're talking about.

Sorry, I meant to say that it is the even number transponders from 2 through 12 on 119. I have two Dish500 and am picking up 119,110, and 61.5 with a DPP44 switch using one 322 receiver and two 811 receivers. There are no trees or foliage in the way and the 322 picks up those transponders no matter which line it is connected to, while one 811 picks them up sometimes and the other not at all, again no matter where they are hooked up.

@ Smith,P.-I think my PROVIDER is DishNetwork, but maybe I am not smart enough to know for sure! I have seen you be helpful to others in the past and if you don't want to help me then you can kindly refrain from commenting.

"while one 811 picks them up sometimes and the other not at all, again no matter where they are hooked up."

I'm gonna go with cable or bad connector on this one or maybe the satellite tuner on the receivers. The even transponders are on the high frequency and when there's a bad connection or bad cable somewhere those are the first to go.

Is the center conductor too long or too short on the cable runs for the 811s? Is there a barrel connector somewhere along the cable run? You must use the 3.0 Ghz barrel connectors, those 1.0 Ghz used for CATV will give you trouble.

My first thought was that it was bad cable, but they all seem OK, the 322 has no problem no matter which cable I hook it up to. I did quadruple check all the connections, center conductor appears normal, there are no barrel connectors on any of the cable runs, etc. Thanks for the help!

Smith, I am only half as dumb as I seem and nearly as dumb as I look. The one DP811 never wants to pick up those transponders while the other will pick them up occasionally.

What about the cable connector at the switch and LNB, have you checked those? It could be that the 811s satellite tuner is more sensitive than the 322. If you're using a DPP44, the center conductor for the satellite IN connections usually need longer center conductors.

If you have spare connectors, redo the ones for 119. We're using RG6, right? Just want to make sure.

The cable connectors at the switch are OK, will have to climb up tomorrow and check the ones on the LNB and will double check the Sat in connections too, but I think they are alright. All cables are RG6.

Might make that call and get the 811 replaced too, it is always acting up anyway.

Thanks again for the help guys.

Update: OK, I checked out the connectors on both the switch and the LNB and they seemed fine, but I replaced the cable just in case with no change, still not picking up those transpnders. In addition I discovered that I am not picking up ANY even number transponders on either 119 or 110. I should've noticed that sooner, but I don't watch any of the channels that I pick up on those tp and didn't realize it until I went through every channel I sub to earlier today. Any more ideas? Thanks.

Like Smith said, sounds like a bad tuner on the 811 since everything is working on the 322.

Did you clear the switch matrix?

Disconnect the satellite feed and run check switch.
Connect the satellite feed and run check switch. It should find the 3 satellites, if it doesn't then you have a bad sat. tuner.
