My questions:

1. Is there a satelliteguys channel master project or something that has all of the transponders for all of the US viewable satellites?
2. Is such a project useful to anyone?
3. Is there a better way to scan (than blind scan) without having to create a tp list from lyngsat on my own (ie someone else has already done similar work)?

I've only been into FTA for about 1 year now and have learned quite a bit so far. I'm interested in feeds and typically when I blind scan it takes > 5 mins.

An alternative to blind scan on my receiver is tp scan, which scans all of the tps programmed into the receiver for that satellite and is much faster than the blind scan, however this means that I need a complete list of every tp available on every sat.

Another issue I have with blind scanning (aside from the time), is that I seem to get duplicate tps. They're only off by 1-2 on the frequency, but they list the same channels. I believe this is due to temperature of the LNB.

My idea was to find someone who had created a channel master project that included all of the transponder and satellites (visible to me) from lyngsat. Unfortunately the newest file I could find was from 2006.

For me it would be useful, so I can cut down on my scanning times, but this assumes lyngsat is a complete list of transponders. I was going to write a program that would extract the transponder data from lyngsat and put it in a channelmaster project file, but I noticed that some of the transponders on lyngsat lack the symbol rate (SR) field. On my receiver if I set the symbol rate to 0 it will not automatically determine the symbol rate during a tp scan, only during a blind scan, therefore I'd still have to do blind scans.

Are the missing symbol rates simply because they change on those transponders? Would it be "safe" to do a blind scan to find these symbol rates and then assume they will remain that way.

The problem is digital isnt like the old analog

Analog was mainly 20mhz steps
11720, 11740,11760 etc

digital they can break that 20mhz up into I think 6 segments. Someone can take the whole transponder, 1/2 or 1/6th when they rent space. Also they can decide what part they want. Throw in multiple symbol rates and its virtually impossible to have a "updated" channel list

Here is what I mean
there are some "common" symbol rates...3978, 4232, 6111, 13021, 13235, 20000, 29270 and 30000....
the highter symbol rates usually mean more space. So as example sports feed A could rent the following transponder
12180 V 30000

now once their game is done that night sports feed B could use part of the transponder...so they rent
12185 V 6620

and while that game is going news feeds A & B decide to rent a spot for a top of news story. So they rent
12190 V 3978 and
12195 V 3978

now the next day sports feed C decides to use it and they decide to use
12185 V 13021

so now we have multiple symbol rates and frequencies using that one 20MHZ spot within 24 hours...there really isnt an "all the time updated list"

My Coolsat has a "feed" logged on a satellite because that feed is the same for all of a teams games...but during the off time when I blind scan the Coolsat picks up frequencies within + - 3 of that same one but different symbol rate :)

I was aware that sometimes only part of a transponder are used, but I thought maybe the symbol rate of the transponder was fixed and by renting part of a transponder they rented part of the mux on that transponder.

Another way of describing what I thought is that the transponder is configured to always use the same spectrum, but on top of that a digital stream is broadcast and they rent part of the digital stream, thus the symbol rate stays the same.

I'll take your word for it though, I've really not blind scanned enough to be able to check to see if different symbol rates on a single transponder have shown up.

Ice is right with what he said but fixed stations don't move anything only the feeds as far as I know.I'm a newb when it comes to this myself yet I have 5 fixed dishes and a moterised 33" and still dunno nothing.

anyone know how much it is to rent a channel space? wonder what it would take to make a porn fta channel? not that that would be of interest to everyone but i bet it would turn a lot of people to buy a 30 inch dish and make a ton on advertising revenue? i have seen this brought up before is the only reason i ask. dont mean to offend anyone.

Yeah, and then the actors and actresses can be standing around waiting for the live feed to start. how crazy! testing one, two, three. surround sound check!

dont think it will ever happen, however Back in the ole days when I had a bud, actually when I was a child, I caught a live porn that some rich people was sending to I guess there friends or swinging friends. No kidding! That was a trip!

Never know what you will get on these feeds!!

About 2 years ago, you could get a subscription based card for adult channels that were on Galaxy 25. They did not last long in North America but are still active over in Europe.

It sounds like someone could plot out what they have blind scanned in the past and create a probable list of tp's and sr's. It sounds like using this list would be faster than blind scanning. Sounds like a good project.

Using the list MIGHT ( but I doubt it) be faster, BUT it certainly wouldn't catch something not on the list, which is what blindscan is intended to do. I already blindscan probable satellites for feeds, but sometimes the feeds are on improbable birds, so sometimes I scan them , too.
ACRADIO has a huge dishfarm, maybe he could blindscan everything in the sky in relatively short time .(?) With about 40 dishes and 40 receivers, a guy could REALLY have a project .
My wife would kill me !
