Transferring movies to another EHD

I have a VIP 211. My 500gb WD EHD quit working after 2+ yrs (recordings were pixelating, skipping, etc.) I bought a WD 1 TB WD EHD and it works perfectly with the 211.....my question is there a way to transfer the recordings from the 500 gb to the new 1 TB EHD ?

If the drive is bad it's not going to work well enuff to play then it can't be done.
