Sure, the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and LA Times were completely bamboozeled and somehow managed to each independently verify a wildly incorrect figure for the [strike]payoffs[/strike] incentives. And the HD DVD PRD/Toshiba being the nice guys they were never demanded a retraction.

C'mon, you know how "creative" accounting can be. It is unlikely it was all cash or has a literal taxable valuation of $150 million so there is a lot of wiggle room in how they spin the story depending on what message they want sent.

No. Nielsen is the industry reporting agency. It's their figures that count. HMM merely reports them. Vurbano can keep making multiple posts with snide comments about me and HMM but it's futile. Do a google on Nielsen and you'll see that they are reputable. Some folks don't like what they report, so they attack them or the messenger. This is called an ad hominem attack, and generally has been frowned on at this site. Attacking the person or appeals to emotion rather than facts simply discredits the attacker.

What is different about this reported HD DVD payoff, if there was one, and Blu Ray paying off Blockbuster and Target for exclusive distribution there? Or Blu Ray reportedly subsidizing the cost to manufacture Blu Ray disks? I have no insider info on who is paying who, but it's pretty naive to think that both sides aren't doing everything they can to leverage an advantage. I don't get why people say it's OK for one side to do it, but bad if the other side does. You look stupid marching into a war with your guns drawn while criticizing the other side for having guns too.
