Toshiba, LG Electronics Sign Patent Deal
TOKYO, Feb. 9, 2006

(AP) Toshiba and South Korea's LG Electronics have signed an agreement to share their worldwide patents for optical disc products, the two companies said Thursday. Toshiba also announced an additional investment in computer chips.

The cross-licensing agreement between Japanese electronics-maker Toshiba and LG is expected to expedite product development and reduce development costs for optical products such as next-generation DVDs, the companies said in a joint statement.

FYI: LG support both HD DVD and Blu-ray. At CES they were showing prototype players for both formats: HD DVD player HD-199 and Blu-ray Disc player BD199, which looked almost identical. ;)
 
And they are the most likely vendor of multi-burners.:) I have LG multi burners in my machines because all of them writes DVD-RAM too.
