TIVO vs E*

TiVo also has a patent on placeshifting (i.e., Slingbox). I suspect DISH stole that tech from them too.

You do realize that Dish only bought Sling, they didn't design it, don't you?

Yes, I had been following Sling for quite a while before the first slingbox came out. If I recall, the guy who started the company wanted to watch N.Y. Giants games while he was on the road.

I actually have one of the first-generation slingboxes as well as the HD model (yes, I have sent some of my money to DISH).

Don't worry, Charlie will just spend millions of subscriber $ to fight it.

I thought he was looking to save you money? Isn't that why you keep losing channels? Maybe he does it to help fund these court cases.

hey...who cares? I've been saying three things all along:

1. Tivo is an unethical company.
2. The legal system is fundamentally flawed and is just a game.
3. The patent system is fundamentally flawed.

and this latest patent is the incontrovertible proof!

so I'm loving this right now... :D

Have any problem with this cost being passed on to you?

As long as I'm paying less than you, I have no complaints...oh, AND getting the same number OR more channels than you...

I'm just sayin....
Just out of curiosity, what would one pay for a package on Dish that had over 250 channels, 2 DVRs, HD access, locals (8 in HD through Direct), 2 local FULL-Time RSNs, and HD extra?

For me with D*:
$58 for Total Choice Plus (200+ channels)
$6.00 for DVR service (all DVRs on the account)
$10.00 for HD
$5.00 for HD extra (the HD only channels)
$5.00 for the additional receiver.

Total = $84

I did not include EI since it is not possible to compare.

And have more that one HD Television.

According to Dish's website the comparable package to mine would be:

$58 Classic Gold (250+ channels)
$5 for locals (only 6 in HD) and my 2 RSNs are not full time
$10 for HD access
$10 for Platinum HD (similar to D* HD Extra)
$12 for DVR service (2 DVRs)

Total = $95

Cannot include EI since they do not offer it.

It looks like I pay less and I have a TiVo (which sucks BTW).

I got this from Dish's website so I can be off.

I think it speaks volumes when the USPTO approves a continuation application of a patent currently being "reexamined".

sure does...just like the child who shouts that the emperor has no clothes! like I said, the flaws in the patent system and legal system have certainly been...'exposed'. :)
