TiVo Developing ‘Legal’ Version of Aereo

Interesting, but it seems as though the legal precedent has been established and Tivo will have an uphill battle...unless they're willing to pay licensing fees to the network broadcasters. Tivo said they will reveal details in the Summer. We shall see...

The only way it seems they can make it "legal" would be to pay the licensing fee, which in theory, any of the other pay TV providers or any upstart could do.

I think that is likely. The advantage TIVO has is that they can provide a 1 box solution that is better than DISH/Sling or Whomever/Roku because it has a real DVR. If you have used a cloud based DVR, you know they simply aren't the same in terms of convenience. TIVO is also moving forward quickly in providing integration between conventional recording and net delivered content. The upgrade to season pass to include Netflix/Amazon/Hulu is very well done.

The problem of course is how much do broadcasters want for their signal? If the the big 4 each want $5/month for their channel it would price this out of the market...
