I'm planning on moving my RPLCD to the bedroom for a second dvr and buying a new 1080p. This will happen after I move which puts it in the summer at earliest. Are there any good sales in that time frame, or should I wait for B Friday?

Also, I'm looking at the Sony Bravia mid grade LCD's(deep color;XBR is a little more than I want to spend) or Panny/Samsung plasmas.

Anyone have any wisdom? I owned a Panny plasma EDTV about 2 years ago and liked it, traded it for the Sony I have now because I wanted a 720p TV.

The new Samsung plasmas have a better contrast ratio than the Panasonics do(and are talked about well on AVS), and I think motion blur and lower contrast ratios are what steers me towards the plasmas. BUT, I have noticed if the Plasmas have deep color capability.

Going to speak not from specs but from the heart. I absolutely love my Sharp Aquos, I recently bought a Sony Bravia for downstairs to replace my aging Insignia (best buy brand) and Still the Sharp has so much better Picture (IMHO).

Really, my first choice was going to be the aquos, but heard that it did not match the Bravia.

What model Bravia did you get? W or V?

Heres the lcd's i like:

Buy the Samsung 46" LCD HDTV and other LCD & Plasma TVs at circuitcity.com

Buy the Sharp 46" LCD HDTV and other LCD & Plasma TVs at circuitcity.com (appears to have fastest response time)

Buy the Sony 46" Bravia W-Series LCD HDTV and other LCD & Plasma TVs at circuitcity.com (current favorite, has deep color and highest contrast)

Heres the plasmas:

Buy the Samsung 50" Plasma HDTV and other LCD & Plasma TVs at circuitcity.com (current favorite, highest contrast and appears to have best color)

Buy the Panasonic 50" Plasma HDTV and other LCD & Plasma TVs at circuitcity.com

Without having looked at any in store, the Samsung plasma is very appealing. I guess some of these models by replaced by newer generations before I get ready to buy.

As I said I am not speaking from specs, but from what I personally enjoy.
Its the V model, the Bravia that is.

Okay, I have heard negatives on the V too. Ill have to give the W and the Aquos a look in the store and try and read some more up on them.

The plasma has a little more size, but one thing I hates was how the plasma screens reflect so much.

Been looking at decent deals on Samsung plasma's. Currently have Sony RPTV that still does a decent job but want to go with 50" plasma and hang on the wall for space sake.

Im kinda in the same boat as you. I like my Sony RPLCD, BUT the picture is just not as good as a plasma. Id like a 50" and 1080p. If I go with LCD, I guess itll be 46", but thats what my RPLCD is and the size is least of my requirements.

I cant complain about the RPLCD though, got it for $1200 in Nov 06

I had my eye on a 46" phillips 1080P but my wife has made me "see the light" and would rather go with a 50". I love her rationale!! (if we're going to spend the money we may as well go with a bigger t.v.)

This is VERY true. Its like when you buy your first new car, you learn so much that you wont/will do next time.

We've talked about TVs, any input on when you generally see good sales in the year?

Labor Day?

Next week = Superbowl. Usually a Lot of good deals for TV's :D

I recently purchased the Samsung LN-T4661F and couldn't be happier.
Great picture, 3 HDMIs, many adjustments to tweak, and virtually no glare (I have direct sunlight due to limited placement options). I purchased mine at Amazon for a great price near the end of November and with their 30 day price match guarantee, I saved an additional $185 from my purchase date until I couldn't claim any more refunds. There was zero shipping cost and no tax. I shopped around quite a bit and settled on this model due to performance for price. At the time I bought it, it was the top rated 46" or larger LCD by CR. Lots of folks don't put much stock in that, but it gives you some info to go by. It was soon after beaten by the XBR5, but at over $1000 less, I would sure hope the Sony would out perform it. Overall, I would certainly buy the same set at the same price all over again. The only downfall I initially had, was the inability to do discreet source selection for my Universal remote, but I found great help on JP1.com for discreet codes and now have macros programmed to take advantage.
That's my two cents,
Bryan

It really depends on what you want to do with it. They are all good choices. Do you need 1080p/24 that is handled correctly in multilples of 24? If so, only the Sony mentioned in your OP will do that. Might consider nuvision also, in the LCDs. The Pioneer in the Plasma category is the only one right now that refreshes at 72Hz.

Panasonic should be coming out by that time with their Plasma that refreshes at a muiltple of 24.

Samsung, Sharp, JVC, Toshiba all apply 3:2 pulldown. No rear DLP's at this time correctly handle 24 either.

Thanks, I found some good posts on it. IMHO, if Im going for 1080p i should shoot for 24 and do it right the first time.

Anyone have any input on the contrast and dynamic contrast of LCD's. How close is a LCD with a contrast of 15k to a Plasma with the same?

Unless things change, I think I see that Sony Bravia W series in my future with the 16k C Ratio.

question about old rear projection

Anyone own a Vizio Plasma?
