BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Time Warner executive Don Logan and his sons have purchased the Birmingham Barons, owned for 10 years by Elmore Sports Group Ltd., the club announced Wednesday.

Logan, an Alabama native who is chairman of Time Warner's Media and Communications group, bought the Chicago White Sox Double-A affiliate with his sons Jeff, of Birmingham, and Stan, of Atlanta.

"Our roots go deep in Alabama," Logan told The Birmingham News. "This is like homecoming."

Don Logan is a Hartselle native who helped develop Birmingham-based Southern Living magazine. Jeff Logan, with a background in banking, is chairman of Magic City Harvest, which distributes food to the needy in three Birmingham-area counties. Stan Logan is an attorney in Atlanta.

Elmore Sports Group owns five other minor league clubs, including Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox.

Jonathan Nelson, club president and general manager, said the sale would not affect the Birmingham team's affiliation with the White Sox, which has continued for 20 seasons.
