Time Warner DVR doesn't follow recording setting right

Hi Guys,
I am not sure how it works, if the problem is the box or the software, but my current HD DVR box keeps recording repeat shows even thou I set the option to record only new shows. I also set a limit to keep only 5 recording of a certain show, but it doesn't work, just keeps adding more recordings.

I remember an older box I had that allowed me to set the exact show to record, like for example, 30 rock, only on thursday at 9pm. That way it wouldn't record repeats and alternative show times.

Does it make sense?
Is there a way to improve it?

Pretty much my goals are:
- Be able to record only new episodes of a series
- Don't record alternative times, like the same shows repeats later in the same day.

Only to say I have the exact same issue. Could be the guide doesn't correctly list the reruns, and the box runs off of the guide. If you set the box to record only new episodes of THE SIMPSONS, you'll get three repeats every day. If you have two overlapping shows that actually are repeats that you try to cancel, one of the two will reinsert itself as a show to record. A box "feature" if I've ever heard of one.
