Thornton-based Space Imaging lent some of its high-resolution satellite images to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to help track the agricultural cycles of coca and poppy plants which produce cocaine and heroin respectively. Using its Ikonos satellite Space Imaging snapped 43 pre-harvest and post-harvest images of sprawling poppy fields in Afghanistan totaling more than 220 000 acres.
