Thinking of returning once again

I had an appointment yesterday for DIRECTV but LOS issue with the 103 sat - so no go.

I know in the past the Eastern Arc dish was pointed to a higher elevation in the horizon - which clears the trees better. Connecticut

My biggest questions are:

- does E* still have eastern and western arc installs?

- it's been over 6 years since I've had E* (I think) if they use eastern arc still for my location- do they have newer satellites now in use to help with rain fade?

- which satilites do I need to look for?

- hopper 3 I assume it's better than the original hopper I had? And can the joey be wall mounted? And are they wireless now?

Eastern Arc and Western Arc dishes are still being installed based on location.

The most recent orbitals are 72.7 and 77 which are retrieved from Eastern Arc.

To check which satellites to look for, we would need to physically test the line of sight at your residence.

The Hopper 3 is ran off different software version which has more features. You do have the option to mount your Joeys. We do offer Wireless Joey.

There is a one time fee of $25.00 for the Wireless Joey. This would cover the cost of the Access Point that is required for the Wireless Joey as well.

61.5 orbital is still being used in the Eastern Arc. All of the Eastern Arc orbitals consist of 61.5, 72.7, and 77.

To be clear to the OP, Regular wired Joeys can be wall mounted...Wireless Joeys cannot be wall mounted. They are a bit larger, more of an oddball curved shape, and and have no provisions for wall mounting. In the pic below, the regular wired Joey is on the right, and comes with a wall plate to mount using the flat bottom. The Wireless Joey is the one standing in the middle, shown how its intended to be oriented. Both side panels are curved. (The other Joey shown is the old Super Joey, which is NOT compatible with the Hopper 3)

Your only choice if you want locals is to get the Eastern Arc unless you are in South Western Ct where NY are the locals. That said with the Hopper 3 you will get a 1000.2 dish and it will only get 61.5 and 72.7 because that is all the Hybrid LNB can do at this time. But you don't need 77 it has no programming not available on the other satellites, it does have the SD version of HD channels.
The wireless Joey work very well overall. It does have a slight delay when changing channels compared to a wired Joey or the Hopper itself, but when getting a wired one installed would be hard or you want to be able to move it to other rooms no problem using the wireless.

I have one of each, and generally find the Wireless Joey to be faster, but not by a large margin. Neither are particular speed demons. Other than that, they are identical in function, interface, and picture quality.

If faster performance is important to you, you might want to look into the 4K Joey. No experience with that one myself, but I think most folks have noted it being faster.

It also does not allow PIP at this point. I got two 4K Joeys because everything said they were faster than the Joey 2.0s (is that the current non-4K Joey?) but I'm regretting it now due to the lack of Netflix, in particular.

In terms of comparison, the Regular Joeys (wired and wireless) have never been capable of PIP. In fact, its been discussed a few times that PIP is not likely to happen on the 4K Joey now either, I believe.

Yeah, and for me PIP is not a big deal. Netflix, OTOH, is. We watch a lot of Netfix and the integration of Netflix into the H3 means that my wife can easily watch shows on Netflix. She's reluctant to switch the inputs over to another device, turn that device on, login, watch the show, then switch the inputs over to the satellite again etc. On the H3 she simply hits the Netflix button and she's into the service. And simple getting back. As well as search results integrating Netflix in.

So I don't really think about PIP on the 4K Joeys, but it really bugs me that I can't use the Netflix service on them.
