The one thing that bothers me about sports lately...and its somewhat minor but what do you think?

Have you noticed watching the MLB and NFL on FOX that they dont show the whole screen while showing the game? Could it be that I dont have HD and thats why there isnt a full screen? I noticed NBC and CBS doesnt do this yet ESPN and FX does. Its kind of annoying to me but does that have something to do with not having HD?

to elaborate FOX decided to move its scorebug outside the "SD safe zone" so if you took a HD feed and stretched it (so there would be no black bars ever) the visitor score is gone

ESPN only has one feed available to providers now and thats the HD feed. So the other day when I was at the cabin I tried to watch ESPNU on Dish...and it was a box ina box...ugh!

for fun I just took my ESPN HD feed and stretched it....part of the score bug at the bottom is gone now (its outside the "safe zone")

and it looks like hell...went back to the normal mode :)

This doesn't help the original poster but when I watch games on ESPN U I set my Dish receiver to full zoom. With a HD display that will make the picture fill the whole screen without the stretching or squishing. SD football zoomed to fit the screen still looks like crap but at least its not the box inside a box you talked about.

I posted how much I hate ESPN college football...between the soreboard, scrolling scores, ESPN bug and other crappola as much as one-quarter of the screen is hidden - kinda defeats having HD. Perhaps I'll zoom and see how it looks.

Furthermore, I look forward to the day when the camera men don't center the action on the screen anymore just for those who are still hanging onto their tube TV's.

For instance, wouldn't it be great if instead of having the offensive/defensive lines centered on the TV, have the offense (if the offense is moving the ball from left to right on your TV screen), be framed all the way to the left so this would allow for more TV real estate to see a play develop down the field? Right now, as it is, you see the lines and the QB. Unless you're at a game, you have no idea what's developing down the field with the receivers. Someday, I hope this will change.

Well it's just like hockey, the camera follows the puck and you miss action down the ice which is why hockey is better at the game.

Since when is getting rid of the Score Bug, a problem, I prefer it to be gone.

When it all started, ESPN had the crawl on espn2 ONLY, with the exception of the top and bottom of the hour, wish they would go BACK to it that way.

Most people want to be able to see the score. They just need to quit making them bigger and bigger every year.

was it just me or did ESPN try to use the biggest font they could on the score for Monday Night Football? (score, time left, downs etc)

It seemed bigger than normal to me too. There was a couple times where you couldn't even see the wide receiver because the big scoreboard strip the used completely covered him.

It looked weirder than normal too because they don't have their ticker across the bottom for most of the MNF games either. I normally wouldn't mind the ticker being gone but the score bug being so big and not connected to the bottom makes it even more noticeable. It was just a huge detached thing blocking a lot of the screen. They should move the score bug all the way to the bottom when they aren't using a ticker.

I don't mind the things at the bottom for ESPN... most of what happens goes up in the screen anyway and the camera guys are told that. Its nice to see clock countdowns and scores while your watching...the nice little slider they added on the left of the screen this year at various times are ok so long as they only use them in the middle of plays or time outs. The other stations like fox and whatever are keeping their scores on the top of the screen and it often times covers the action so I don't care for that. My preference is to watch ESPN games if at all possible unless I don't have a choice.

When I was talking about zooming I didn't mean on the HD channels. Dish only offers us ESPNU in SD but it is still widescreen like an HD channel. The problem is when its not HD but they make it widescreen you get black bars on all 4 sides of the screen. The full zoom I was talking about makes the picture fit the screen without stretching or squishing because it is already widescreen.
